Default Hallman MBC Vs. Joe P. MBC

I've done a lot of searching in the archives and on their website (www.boostcontroller.com) and basically I am looking to buy either the Joe P for $40 or Hallman ES for the freshly raised price of $75. Is the hallman worth the extra cash? From their website it seems like the hallman is just a little more polished up and nice looking than the Joe P. Anybody have experiences with either/both? I've heard overall good things about both but I'd like to know if the hallman is worth the extra cash...

To the best of my knowledge, both are of the same design, with one being e bit more "finished" on the outside and a small difference in adjustment. You can't go wrong with either one.

Boost holds great in 2nd(9.5psi) and third (10psi) then rises to over 11psi in 4th and 5th......

I have a pair of the Evo Rx controllers in my RX-7. This is the controller with the ceramic ball and lightweight spring. They are awesome. They don't creep, they look nice, easy to adjust, and no locknut.

That's weird...I didnt know MBCs could be affected by what gear you are in...anyone know why this would happen?

I'm suspect that it's the MBC's fault really.

I use the Gus Mahon (Grainger/McMaster parts ball/spring) that I built for about $20. Works right now for me...maybe spikes 1 psi at times...no more than that though.

If it was doing its job then it wouldnt allow this to happen. Why don't you enlighten me on what you suspect......

I really have no theories...just seems odd to me that an MBC would be affected by what gear you are in...it's only input is pressure...it bleeds off a specific amount and sends a signal to the wastegate spring...correct?

If it's not doing its job...it's not properly bleeding off pressure. Maybe the bleeder hole is too big or too small on the MBC you are using now?

What MBC are you using now?

Ball & spring still need a bleeder hole...maybe that is part of your issue?

I'm using a DIY 'Ball n spring' type. Made it for under 3 bux. Holds solid at 10psi in any gear and any load.
