Default H22 Turbo build

My stock engine died, and I just ordered a JDM H22A ODBI to replace it.

I'm looking at going turbo over the winter.

What should I have done while I'm getting the swap done?

Should I wait till I have everything ordered (pistons, rods, turbo, etc) and get that all done at once.

I'd like to do this in stages, but I'm not sure where to start.

My engine arrives in 3 days, so I don't have much time if I want to get stuff done during the swap.

You will want to remove the stock engine while you wait for the JDM one to arrive.

You never mentioned that you took the stock one out, so I can't assume it has been done. What car is this coming out of/going into? Is this a civic, a prelude, or what? If it is a prelude, what year, because you may need to consider obd1/obd2 harness and an injector box for peak and hold type injectors.

All that you have said is that you have a car with a broken engine, and a jdm h22 to replace it...

if i were you i'd put the stock motor in, maybe do a manuel tensonier swap.

then when you can get the block sleeved and have all the parts to build the motor, install the turbo and get it tuned in one shot.

In the mean time i suggest a lot of research

thanks.

its a 2001 prelude.

Ive just ordered the JDM odbi h22a with LSD tranny. Engine comes with all accessories including ECU. I also bought the ODB2 to ODBI wire harness anyway.

the car is sitting at the shop with the broken motor, new one is on-route and should be arriving by friday.

I'll look into the manual tensioner ish, and injector box?

seems there may not be any key things to do just yet, and best do the turbo setup in one shot.

thanks again for the feedback guys.

turbo setup in one shot you say ? With those frm sleeves you got on that motor, your ideal turbo install in one shot is not going to be possible. Research the H-platform a little more closely.

just to point out he is referring to how h22's have notorious ringlands that don't take much to crack. and here is the info about the sleeves and piston you will have to know about: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=313407

Ya, exactly. By one should I mean, I get everything done at once, including pistons, sleeves, rods, whatever I need.

I know with the h22 I'll need to upgrade the internals, and plan to.

I was thinking of anything I could be doing when I initially get the new engine before it goes back in.

The only thing I think I'll do is the manual tensioner now, rest will wait once I have it all.

i don't get it. why not just use the money for the jdm motor to build your "dead" motor.

Because I need a car to get around? This is my daily driver. Only time it's not on the road is during the winter (Jan-March) which is when I plan to do up the turbo build.

sorry i must've misunderstood. you said your stock engine died. so... during the time you were waiting for you jdm motor, you could have ordered up your parts and had the block done and saved you the cost of the new motor.

now you have a new motor = $$$
new parts = $$$
dead motor = 0

its ur baby tho, so beaman. dodaritething.

yea, im sorta thing I should of went without the car longer and had it done instead now..

but I got the replacement engine in just 5 days from when it died. Another 2 and it'll be back on the road. would of taken alot longer to have the stock block re-done and the parts ordered. and would of cost more too, which I dont have all the funds for yet.
