Default H22 sleeving

A friend of mine has an h22 that he is wanting to sleeve. He wanted to know since its a closed deck motor if you just cut the stock sleeves and press the cast ones in or if they cut it all out like they do a b series block? Does anyone know the process?

Send it to golden eagle or Benson for sleeving... Local shops = fail. GE sleeves here... 2 bores on them. Flawless.

DO NOT LET A LOCAL YOCAL shop do it...... Senfd it to a reputable shop that has ALOR of experience with it (IE JG, GE, Benson, etc)

so, just because they're local don't use them? So if JG was local to me, i shouldn't go to them? that's just like saying don't go to your local grocery store for your eggs.

Honestly, do your research. If you think your local shop can do it, why not go check out their shop? Most shop owners are more than willing to show you around, what they're working on, etc. It's called MARKETING.

Ask the right answers:
Have you worked on x-motors?
Have you sleeved x-motors?
What brand of sleeves have you worked with?
What is your turn-around time?
What is your labor costs?

Local shops like to see local customers as well.

Guy & Doug @ DG Motors in Minnesota have been a great deal of help since I've had my motor built. They use LA Sleeves, and also Darton.. But they can do Benson and others as well.

Very good point. A local shop charged me $2900 to sleeve my block which was sent out to ERL. I was originally quoted a price of $1500. after the engine was torn down the price was $1900 hundred after the block was completed the total costs was $2900. In my opinion this was pure price gauging. I believe shops with such practices will eventually go out of business for failure to be truthful and upfront with customers just to get a quick money fix. Often times these kind of shops do see the long term affect of their business practices.

most local shops will ship out blocks to "their" place that sleaves blocks for them, i personally would have saved $450 dollars by shipping it myself and cutting out the middle man (local shop), now im all about spending money locally and spending a little more sometimes, but 400-500 is way to much and ultimately not worth it

http://www.customdesignperformance.c...g/Sleeves.html

these guys built my h22, about 5000 to get the bottom end built and long block assembled.
(arp head/main, eagle rod, acl bearing, darton mid, balance block off, cp 9:1 balance/ blue print,) A bit pricey but should be good for a 400+hp daily driver.

Yes, understood, that's why you need to ask the right questions. You also need to understand that not ALL local shops have the technology, equipment, or knowledge to do it in-house, that's why they have "their" place do it for them. It's a network, aka - sub-contractors.

Even though i did NOT sleeve my block, i still asked them what they do "in-house". Guy also explained how ceramic-coating my piston skirts would help, but he told me straight up he would have to send them out and have them back in 4 days for ~30$ a slug, and by all means, he had them back as said with pricing included.

Don't be a nuisance by asking stupid questions, but if you don't understand something, ask, and thou shall recieve.
