Default GT35R.. specs/help??

Okay i bought a GT35R .63 A/R hot side, from Full-Race.. and i know that a .63 A/R will have a less peak powerband then the .82 A/R, but how much faster will the .63 A/R spool over the .82 A/R, and how much more peak HP will the .82 A/R have over the .63 A/R.. but my other questions are..

1. should i go with a 82. A/R, even though it will spool a little later.. will it be that much later b/c it's a BB traits??
2. when can i expect full-boost with a .63 A/R and when can i expect it with a .82 A/R??
3. should i go with a v-band ove rthe 4-bolt??
4. how much HP advantage does the .82 A/R have ove rthe .63 A/R??

Comments/Knowledge would be greatly appreciated

really it all depends on your horsepower goals. I'm assuming with that turbo you are shooting for 475+. If this will be a street car I would go with the .63 ar, but if this was going to be a drag car I would prob go with the .82 though the spool time is very minmal, prob like 400-600 rpms different than the .63.

Really, the only HUGE difference between the two is having the downpipe fabricated for the housings. The .82A/r will fit direct 3" flange to it, while the .63A/R fits the 2.5" flange.

On a B18C1 Fully Built 84mm Bore with this turbo we acheived over 526whp at 22psi of boost. This turbo is specifically made for over 14psi of boost before its peak efficiency is realized.

See that where this is throwing me off at.. i kind of want the best of both worlds, but i know that isn't really possible with boost.. the car will be on the street most of the time, but i want to compete agressively at the track in my class.. thats why i went with the BB because of the quicker spool times and more linear tourqe paired with an Full-race equal length manifold (i don't like the agressiveness in and out of boost, so i wanted to keep it as linear as i could).. now really how much diff. is bewteen the 2.. say you have same driver/motor/everything, but the one turbo has .63 and the other .82.. what will be faster on the street and strip?? the .82 at the strip b/c it will peaks its HP, or the .63 on the street b/c of its faster spool time??

ahh im confused as ****

I fit a 3" downpipe on my .63ar. You just have to weld the pipe a weird way and dent in the dp around the flange bolts.

Don't look at it as simply a matter of spool time. There are plenty of people w/ just T3/T04E 60 trims that are pulling 12.XX time easily. Please be aware of the fact that it is not SIMPLY the A/R difference that changes the characteristics, but also the configuration of the motor. GT35Rs will act JUST like GT3561Es if it's under 16 or 14 psi on the motor. They like to be pushed hard. But if you get TOO fast of a spool, You'll just sit there and spin tyre. Look at how you want the car to behave. There is a best of both worlds for a turbo, but simply narrowing it down to the A/R size of "which one is better" is not going to honestly get you anywhere closer to the answer you seek. You have to ask the right question.

Sorry if that seems cryptic..

thanks man for the info.. but i have been looking into that my goal when my motor is built is anything 400 on pump gas, but when i throw the race gas in i want close to 550HP.. i will be running this turbine on a stock gs-r motor for now with a conservative tune done by Boosted-Hyrbrid in the near future, but right now im deciding on parts and i have been making fellow member DC2714R (Nate dawwgie) crazy ..

I also love that coating you have done on your cousin's gt35r.. and i was gonna PM you to see how much you would charge for my compressor and exhuast housing to be done in black HPC 2000 degree?? get at me and let me know a price for it..

i just want to know what i should do.. im a n00bie but i am learning very fast.. but i think im going to do the .82 A/R with the V-band housing.. let me know if im wrong??

yes yes i understand all of this.. but i am buying the turbo now so the A/R does matter and is a determing factor to my choice with where and how my power is going to function when its all said and tuned..

This is the 2nd most popular internet myth. Following closely behind the, "LS tranny is better for boost myth."

Manikgsr,

The .63ar is big enough on a B series to make over 500whp w/ this turbo. On a gsr engine, it will provide acceleration into the 9k+ rpm range. The .82ar housing is going to move your spool about 500rpm's later, make some extra power in the 500+ range, and allow your engine to accelerate an extra 500rpm's. Unless your planning to make over 500whp and rev it to 10k rpm's, id stick w/ the .63ar and go for the more usable powerband.

Not a myth. In extreme circumstances, we found that there was a control issue that occured with those that started too fast, we ususally used a speed staged boost controller to control that, but this was on a couple of supras..

As for your choice, the .82A/R should be fine if you plan on going the 3" route. And when built, the turbo will easily make 400whp on about 14psi, and over 500whp by about 20 psi

i could always just get the .63 A/R housing and swap over to the .82 A/R housing for like $300.. i think this is what i am going to do right now.. just go with the .63 A/R while im not fully built, and then swap over the .82 A/R after i build..

Also will the 2.5" .63 A/R bottle neck and hamper exhaust performance matted with a 3" exhaust??

that has a prety big wheel in it doesnt it? id think youd prob be more than fine with the 63 ar housing on it. Check with Geoff and Jeff on their opinions. They will be more than willing to help out if they arent too busy, they are good guys and know alot.

Good post! Saving for later...

Geoff will probably swap out that .63 A/R for .82 A/R if you really want it. Just talk to him about it. He's one of the most helpful guys on here.

The turbine wheel is actually pretty small. It is 68mm (2.67") exducer.

I am not sure what Shodan is talking about w/ the .63 having a 2.5" outlet.... The exducer on the wheel is 2.67", and that means that the outlet on the housing is going to be AT LEAST that. If you run a 2.5" downpipe on this turbine wheel it is going to cover up the outlet and choke off flow.

As for the .82 having a 3" outlet.. Both housings are still the same size at the exducer wheel. The only thing that is going to changing on the outlet between the .63 and .82 is the .82 might be bored at an angle compared to the .63 being bored strait out at about 2.7".. Either way if you have a 3" downpipe on it, then you are not going to be chocking flow on either housing.

Do the .63.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I was refering to the actual outlet of the housing, not the exducer. Those are the easy fit matches, but there are several ways that people on this thread have already explained

I agree with Direp. For what he wants the .63a/r is going to be a better fit.

just to clarify, you realize the outlet on the .63 is not 2.5"... The outlet does not shrink down from the 2.67" exducer.

Yes.. I am aware of that.. The 2.5" downpipe is more commonly used for that particular exducer outlet.

Just saying.. not debating about 2.675832032- inches.

Pete thanks for the info man.. i talked to a Todd at full-race's tech-line and he said he had no problem making the exhaust housing a v-band with the .63 a/r wheel.. he said like it was already stated in the other posts, that i could always swap out the housing if i wanted to go bigger..

I talked to Nate today on the phone and told him i was sticking to the .63 a/r.. Nate Dawgie i just want to say thank you so much for putting me under your wing, and showing me all the cool people like Pete, Jeff, and everyone else.. When this is all said and done im going to have to like buy you dinner or lunch or something man b/c i dunno how to thank you..

Im always bothering Nate with what about this or, im a ****** JDM ***** that LOL b/c i know that Jeff doesn't have the time so i will just spend time with him when i have more parts and get closer to the final stages, and as for Pete well i dunno his number LOL!!

Cool. yeh, running a 2.5" downpipe w/ this turbo is going to block off flow.

Thanks to Direp972 or else this might have gotten out of control, people might end up selling you a lag kit

Anyway, don't beat yourself up over the housings, you are looking at a 1000$ + turbo, to swap housings later is only $180 or so ... so don't worry about it too much you can alsways change.

If your not planning on hitting close to 570-600 don't bother with the .82.

i would just kick it with the .63ar.

my car is moving along pretty quick with just having a t3/t4oe, stage 5 wheel, 60 trim with a .63 ar. My fastest thus far was a 12.09@115 in my hatch with b18c1 with rods/pistons, stock head. 2.5in downpipe that flares to 3in to 3in exhaust. All at .8bar, so I'm sure once I turn the boost up that I'll be into the 11s, so with that big nasty of a turbo you should be able to get yourself pretty fast.
