Gt3076r
So I just received a turbo kit for my b swapped 98 civic. The kit Is from GO AUTOWORKS. the kit comes with a Garrett gt3076r but what I'm not understanding is that the compressor housing is a to4b style, no anti surge ports like the gt3076r. I called and talked to the owner and he said that with the kit I ordered he always installs the B style housing. Not really a fan of this in particular, but everything is great quality so I can't complain. However I would like to put a traditional gt3076r housing on it for the anti surge protection. Is it just as simple as throwing the traditional style on? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
If you told greg that you wanted the 4" housing he wouldve sold it to you. That be said, if your chassis has limited space, or running and A/C kit. Then the smaller b cover mite make sense. I suggest contacting greg again. Making sure your both clear on "wants", expectation, and whats practical.
I'm not upset about it. Greg is wicked cool I have no complaints and am ordering another kit from him for my girlfriends db1 integra. Just simply asking what has to be done to make the switch to a traditional housing. Not running ac or power steering.
It depends how your exhaust manifold and downpipe are set up. If you have the exhaust going near the A/C compressor side of the engine, and the compressor is on the transmission side of the engine, then he might have made the manifold place the turbo near the block (where it says B18), and only a “B” sized compressor will fit.
You might want to check on that before just swapping the compressor housing out. Maybe you got an A/C compatible kit, or maybe he makes all of his kits like that, so you might want to look into the fitment of a larger compressor with the exhaust manifold and downpipe (especially exhaust manifold) set up you have, to make sure there is ample space for the larger compressor housing to fit in near the block…I would say install the exhaust manifold and turbo, but then it would be “used” and you might not be able to return it….

Yes, if you buy the actual housing that was made for the turbo. Not something machined from an outside source. Will also have to change parts for the intake. As the opening is bigger

Why would you want to go to a top mount? Wouldn't damn near everything need to be changed before the intercooler?
It very well could be because it want more power in the topend. That a simple switching of turbine housing would not entirely provide. Judging by how hes asking if he can switch out to a bigger housing, i guessing he doesnt really have the knowledge yet. Of what is what and does what. So its likely asethics or easier access
I just like the fit and finish of a top mount. The car has been done for a couple months now it made 492whp on a dyno jet. Switching the compressor housing made it sound sweet and looks more appealing in my opinion.
