I just sold a brand new, unused Spec 2 and bought the Type S. I wanted the original one, but couldn't find one new because it was discontinued, so I bought the Spec 2, then a few months later the Type S is released. It pissed me off, but I didn't lose that much money. There's a guy in the sponsor forum that will match any offer you find on the Type S. The Spec 2 works for a lot of people. The instructions suck, but there are a few posts that explain things better than Greddy Engrish.

Dude, sooo many people have said alot of bad **** about the Spec II. Yeah the digital looks tight, but **** its confusing. Im loving the simple Spec I look. Think about it liek this. OBVIOUSLY Greddy saw how shitty the spec II was, hence the reason they made a new version of the Spec I. thats just how i see it. Im probably gonna sell this POS Spec II for the type S. HOw much did you buy it for? Also, i like 3 ***** rather than menus!

the 2 that i have installed i have had to take out because if inaccuracies at low boost. because of the stepper motor we think. i have been using the blitz dual SBC instead. it uses the old stepper motor from the profecb spec a and they seem to be working fine.

if the type s is exactly the same as the original profec b then go for it. I have the original on a GREDDY turbo kit with the internal gate still in place(I am sure you heard of the creep and spike issues with that gate) and it holds boost rock solid to redline. with the controller off it tends to spike and creep but with it on it holds boost where you set it and it is the easiest controller out there to set.

OKay i need a final answer! haha, i now have the option to exchance my Spec II for the Type S. Should I? It better be like the Spec I in every way AND some. lol. The Spec II does a lot of stuff, but will i use it? nah. I like the ease of a ****. I just dont want this to be something i regret once i exchange it. You know how that goes.

It's up to you, but boostedcivicsir said he installed 2 in a car and both of them had problems, possibly with the stepper motor. Who knows? Someone mentioned that an externally gated car should have the Profec hooked up like the internally gated diagram. I still say that the instructions suck, and I didn't want to be distracted by all the different menus and settings, when my eyes should be on the road. I doubt they changed the stepper motor between the Spec 2 and the Type S, so to me it just came down to ease of use.

Seems to me like the Spec II is much better. It has alot more options and goes for about the same price anyways.

question.. the gain **** which controls the wastegates response... wouldnt that be set all the way up if you want your wg to respond as quick as possible?

Actually that's backwards. Turning the gain all the way up would make the wastegate open later.

why would you want the WG to delay at all? So keep the gain all the way down? how much of a delay would it give if you had the gain up?

If the wastegate opens gradually, then you don't spool as fast. If it opens at the last possible second, then you get quicker spooling. This can give you boost spikes, so you adjust the gain to control spiking.

Ahh! good info my friend! Thanks. Any tips on what you should set it to? what do most people have theirs at? 50%. Right in the middle sounds good. haha.

Well the purpose of the gain is so that you can tune each individual setup to control spiking since every setup is different. Going in with a predetermined setting in mind makes it pointless.

Exactly. If the boost is holding you're good. Mase is doing a JaBooty Africa tour? Cool! Anyway, I'm sure he's seen dozens of these when tuning, so keep the Spec 2 and have him dial it in for you.
