Default Is glazing necessary?

I was wondering if glazing was necessary on replacing stock pistons with SRP pistons? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

That would be "deglazing".And yes its necessary to allow the rings to seat.

On properly maintained engines you can often not deglaze and the rings will seal fine. I have done it several times on Bs Ds and other motors. I'm putting pistions in a viper tomorrow with no deglazing...cant wait to gap 20 rings in a row
