Default FUEL CUT Or REV LIMITER OR ????

I'm on the highway, just chilling, when this chevy cavalier starts messing with me like he wanted some. so being as i just got this car, and havent had to much fun with it yet, i wanted to go ahead and give it a try. I drop to 4th gear and go at it... well needless to say with my turbo GSR in a 93 civic hatch it wasnt much of a race.

Now, I'm going about 115 ish, and i decide what the hell lets open it up and get a top speed idea, so into 5th I go, its chugging along, getting up there 125... then 5600 rpm's in 5th, i get like a buck out of the car. I didnt try to go past that point, but it defintly felt like a fuel cut off or rev limiter, but im not really sure... i was defintly a little upset but thats why im posting it here to get a heads up.

my fuel stuff

i have a greddy 18g turbo on a gsr motor in a 93 hatch
missing link / jackson racing FMU
440cc injectors
stock fuel pump
p72 obd1 ecu
currently have a cel code 23 knock sensor on but i dont believe that'll effect that.

i did search before i posted.. somebody said thay they were running rich on top and it acted like a rev limiter. i havent gotten it tuned yet (getting hondata soon)

so, does anybody have a clue why this happened and how to fix it?

My guess is speed limiter on the factory ecu. In all the honda cars I've had the factory limits the speed to around that 115-120 mph. When you get hondata no more cut out.

I was under the impression that the obd1 gsr motor's dont have a limiter. im 99% positive its not jdm.

are you sure you didn't have a misfire? If I were you I would definitely not be boosting in fifth with a fmu...
Definitely check your plugs for any signs of problems and I would look into getting some sort of real fuel management. good luck.

ok .. thanks for the advice..

no more top speed checks until i get a hondata! keep it in 4th unless cruising on highway.

i dont think i misfired... im guessing maybe im wrong and i have a jdm ecu, because the usdm dont have govenor.

if you are running stock internals never boost 5th gear i thought everyone knew this good way to mess up your motor 5th gear is too much strain on your motor i didnt even boost 5th with a built motor but hopefully u learned not to do that again prolly my boosted 5th real hard one day and burnt a valve in a gs-r so take my advice how u wanna i would get a leak down test done if the car is running funny now . definately check them plugs for detnation

Well,

I'm definitly not boosting in 5th thats for sure anymore! i dont need to go 160mph anyway or whatever i would get...

The car is definitly running fine though, which is good.

plugs seem to be a ok!

guess i got lucky! Thank God

You have an FMU and 440's? What is the ratio on the FMU?

Sounds like bad news.

i was actually wondering what the ratio is on my jackson racing fmu.. nobody seems to know. I heard it is a 5:1 .. but dont really know. and yeah why is that trouble? wayyy to much fuel right?

cant wait to just get hondata and be done with all these issues.

EDIT : just got off phone with JRSC tech.. its definitly a 5:1 ratio

Yes, 440's are enough fuel without a rising rate FPR. You have a rediculious amount.

thats what i thought...

my concern is.. i bought the car already done...

i was told it has 440cc injectors.........but until i actually physically see that they are 440cc, i dont want to get rid of the fmu, just incase he wasnt saying something like they act like 440cc injectors, know what i mean?

soo.. ill probably keep the fmu on until i get hondata.

is there a quick/easy way to check the size of the injectors...

i do get smoke out the exhaust when i WOT.. being rich obviously.. so.. im positive i have plenty of fuel going to the engine...

when i get dyno'd ill post what my a/f is. thanks
