Sell the fmu and the afc hack etc...
Buy injectors big enuff for your setup & use a management system such as hondata, ubberdata etc.

im in the same shoes ure in right now and i did alot of SEARCHING in the archives about fmu's and the afc hack method and came to a conclusion that both of them are not really safe to run, your better off using hondata or uberdata.

Default Re: fmu or afc hack (redturbocivic)

put it this way, after having my SAFC-II for less than a year, my car started giving me the check engine light. Turns out the Throttle Angle Sensor was no longer working. I pulled the ECU out after i figured out what was wrong, and saw the the wiring was just as it should have been. As I expected, after pulling the SAFC-II out, the code was gone. Had this happened with a turbo car, it would have definately blown the engine, as it would not have performed any fuel correction (it read 0% throttle). And as for an FMU, its very innacurate, as it is mechanical and only reacts to boost in a linear manner, and gives peak fuel delivery often a long time before it is required. I am selling both of these items if you are dead set on them, i guess im not much of a salesman

stand alones > Hack > FMU

Get the best that you can afford. Considering that turboedit and Uberdata are free programs, you can afford a stand alone EMS.

dude, just get engine management. You have to really know what you are doing, or you really have to pay to play. If you get more into it in the future you will end up getting it anyways. You are trying to cut one of the worst corners you can

Search "smc" in archives. Should come up with 271 results on stuff about the smc.

Also, look at http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~ecg/SMC/smcplus.htm

Do the hack until you realize your car runs like crap. Then spend the EXTRA money to set up with Uberdata/Hondata. In the long run, you'll end up spending more money. Remember, when you are building a turbo car, FUEL MANAGEMENT is not something you want to "skimp" on.

I just dont like the idea of an FMU. Its just like another hack. All it does is adjust fuel instead of actually controlling it. A standalone type system like uberdata or honda can control and adjust your fuel accordingly, not to mention control your timing as well. An FMU is "fine" for anyone under 7 psi. Using one otherwise could prove to be harmful and wasteful since you aren't getting the maximum amount of power from your setup.

Also to clear things up, I am not saying the Hack or FMU will not work; because it will, it just wont help bring your setup into its maximum or be as reliable in the long run.

i would run the fmu w/ the 310's and vfac for now until you have enough money for hondata...

anyone would rather run hondata then (fmu/vafc), but for people on a buget fmu is fine for a basic drag turbo kit....

im planning on running hondata later this year when i convert to obd1. but for now im happy with my set up..
