Default Flywheel Thoughts

I am in a small decesion spot and dunno the best choice...

I am in the middle of a rebuild of my b18c and I expect around 400whp daily driven. Daily driven meaning that it WILL be driven everyday (pretty much). I want something that will have longevity along with drivability... I will be using a Clutchmasters Stave IV clutch, and thought about the 7lb flywheel...
The issue I have is that it might be to quick to rev high and be a little harder to smoothly engauge. I then thought about a lightened and balanced stock flywheel, like maybe going to 12lbs... Would this still be strong enough to hold that kind of power while daily driven?

Thoughts? Constructive Critisizims? Suggestions?

I have the CM flywheel in my 300whp hybrid. I'm thinking about going back with the stock flywheel. At the track on 22-8-15 slicks I have to ride the clutch to get a decent launch without bogging.

I use a Jun chromoly, works pretty well. I would recommend a stage 5 clutch or custom clutch if youre gonna be making that much hp.

I would use the stock flywheel. I'm not a big fan of light weight flywheel.

I have a 7.5 LB Clutchmasters flywheel mated to a Clutchmasters stage 4 clutch. Best combo.

Stock flywheels shatter, so if for no other reason than that....id change it. Did everyone know that in NHRA you have to run an after market flywheel if you run 11.99 or quicker?

Mike that isnt true. The NHRA rule states " All FWE or Transverse-mounted applications using a clutch and running 11.99 must be equipped with a flywheel sheild made of 1/4" minimum thickness steel plate. Shield must be surround the bellhousing completely except fo rarea of flywheel shield adjacent to differentail and axle shaft. Sheild may be multipiece, with pieces bolted together using 3/8" diameter Grade5 or M10 class 8.8 bolts; may be attached to engine and/or bellhousing. "
The rules make no indication of having an after market flywheel.

Here you go...

2:5 Flywheel
The use of stock-type cast-iron flywheels and/or pressure plates
prohibited in any car running 11.99 or quicker. Units meeting SFI
Spec 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4 mandatory in all cars running 11.99 or
quicker.

...hey you beat me too it

I think it's a conspiracy from the flywheel manufacturers who sponsor NIRA to force people to use aftermarket flywheels!

If in the event of a blown up flywheel, wouldn't the scattershield be able to contain the debris within the bell housing? Or what's the point behind the safety precaution of running strictly aftermarket flywheels in cars that fast?

What can I say, gotta be quick...earn your keep.

I know, I think its dumb too. Why have a scatter sheild if the companies are claiming to make these awesome flywheels that dont explode. And if the sheilds gonna work, then why make us run a flywheel????

But Hondas don't have have cats-irin flywheels...they have steel ones...does that rule still pertain?

Stay with the stock flywheel. CM flywheel is no good, it will break on you!! Jun flywheel needs to be modified or else you will have a hard time starting the car becuase the teeth wont catch.

OT- I got a clutch master flywheel for sale. 200 bucks! Used for only 500 miles. I went back to stock flywheel.
