Flame out of hood exit when sputtering?
I have an lsv turbo on 15psi. The car will sputter or break up at 6k rpm but then be ok after 7k and shoot flames out the hood exit between 6k and 7k as its breaking up. My wideband reads 11.1-11.7 through the whole pull even through the break up. Do you guys think its too low of a ignition timing? Its at 13.5* full boost.
Yeah its tuned, and the plug on the insulation is about .5mm from the tip which looks perfect. But when I hook up the hulog, it shows I'm at 17.5* but my ignition map is set at 13.5*, which one is correct
Sounds like something more mechanical. Such as Ignitor or ICM inside the distributor itself. If the distributor has been removed, then perhaps the pick-ups or trigger is malfunctioning in some way.
If not you'll have to do it the old school way:
follow the factory service manual's method to set the timing;
run the engine till the cooling fan turns on and back off.
turn off engine
jumper the service jumper
start car
attach timing light to #1 plug wire and power
set timing to desired timing mark (stock is 16* for most honda engines)
shut off car
remove jumper from service jumper
reset ECU (this is optional but recommended)
What ems is it tuned with? You are probably looking at your actual logged timing witch will almost always be different then your table timing if your tuner did not disabled the other timing compensations. The main compensation is a rpm dwell compensations that will add timing as rpms increase. It just depends on how your tuner set it up, but this is likely why your logged timing does not match your table timing. Do as the other suggested and double check your base timing. This should have been one of the first things your tuner did.

15psi what turbo? How much power?
Wtf is a hulog? A datalogger?
What ems?
Post a pic of the plugs
If the timing is really retarded then yes itll shoot flames through the exhaust. Does it feel like a rev limiter? Although on an 18g and maybe 250whp i was at 9 degrees and didnt have any backfire or flames through the exhaust. It just fet sluggish. -15 degrees will shoot flames for sure

Yeah a hulog is a datalogger. I found out that the spark plug were a step hotter so I got NGK bkr7e and close the gap to .025" and it feels smooth now. Its tuned with crome.
The flames are fuel burning in the exhaust, so for some reason it's misfiring. If it's from too much retard, it will do it worse if you remove timing and clear up if you add it. Sound simple but it had to be said.
If you add/subtract in that spot and it still does it, it's probably from some weak ignition component. Decrease the plug gap and see if that clears it up. This is quite possible since ~6k is where your B18B is probably making peak torque, meaning peak cyl pressure or the densest mixture, which will be the hardest to create a spark in.
