so you wouldnt agree with my above statement that his plugs are fine? why not, they are definetley NOT in the lean range by any means, and like MTBER says there is minimal difference from mid 12s to mid 11s. his burn looks to be probably a little rich, but unless he came and complained about some really crappy gas mileage, then slightly rich is okay in my book. my plugs look similar, notice i say similar. and my car makes great power and has been running for over 2 years without any problems, so i just figured i answered his questin in a decent fashion.

no your right, I don't agree. True, running rich is always better then lean, but when the electrode is not white and is black this means the self cleaning mechanism on the sparkplug is not working. This leads to incomplete combustions and early fouling of the plug, not to mention the cat and 02 sensor at the same time most likely. You really want to concentrate on the bottom of the spark plug and not the electrode when looking for the rich or lean condition. The bottom can be black as hell meaning you are running rich, but if the electrode is not white then it is too rich and the spark plug is not working efficiently and neither is your motor. I'm just saying it's a little too rich, but if he keeps it like this I don't see any future problems except crappier gas mileage and early spark plug/cat/02 sensor fouling. He can run leaner and it will still be under the 12 AFR range I've been running my car for about 8 months and I get 300 miles to the fill up city driving. 0 problems and my plugs burn perfect....black on the bottom ring and white electrode with a hint of brown.

Sorry I was just stating that under 11 is really uneccessary and actually increases chances for detonation. sorry for the mix up my bad
EDIT: I am baseing this all on the fact that he just pulled these out of the car NOT on a WOT run. This means that idling and during partial throttle he is running entirly too rich. If this was a boosted run then I'd say it's a little rich, but not to be worried about it.

They're supposed to be white.
As long as you don't see detonation evidence on them, you're "alrighty"

i do see your point and i would have to say that those were probably from a post idling motor and not after a WOT pull.

Dont forget that these plugs only have 700 miles on them. I ran those exact same plugs at the beginning of my current setup and after 3-4k miles on the plugs you would begin to notice a little throttle hesitation and a rather significant loss in power. Not saying that the power loss is from running rich but rather from fouling the plugs. My plugs looked almost exactly like those with around 1k miles on them. I switched to the hotter bkr6e and leaned the mixture out to almost exactly 12:1 under boost and now the plugs last through several oil changes with ease.
