I bet you're getting much less air than a filter.

the K&N website

I've heard of people sucking their HKSs through their turbos.

I've been running filterless. Been meaning to get one, but I have to get a slimline fan ect, ect first.

try the hks mushroom filter foam between 2 screens, it wont take much space and wont require modifying anything such as getting a slim line fan.

Mechanicsville/LaPlata area. I'm running a screen over it for right now. It's saved my *** before.

Last fall I was going down a back road enjoying the weather when I lost boost all of a sudden. It was pig ******* slow. I got to a store and pulled over. A leaf had gotten sucked up onto the compressor. Luckly the screen kept it from going through my motor.

Where can you get the HKS filter foam? Do you have to buy an entire filter or do they sell just the filter element?

I actually found a good fitting filter for my turbo inlet. I think it's a racing go-kart filter.

I wouldn't suggest this route either, you really want a full size filter... the area of the filter will control the amount of air you get into the compressor. A patch of it just on top of a screen will yield much LESS air than a 3-6inch filter that has xxx times the amount of surface area.

I'm running a screen right now out of necessity, working on filtering though.

Running a turbo without a filter is like driving a car without insurance in the short term. In the long term all the fine particles that are blown into the motor at high velocity will slowly beat away on the aluminum, and valve seats, valves, etc.. Just be creative and make it happen, or change your setup so that it facilitates a filter.

im runnning a SC and im scared to go filterless since the compressor has very little clearance. go to a local race shop have them bend some tubes for you so you can get a filter in there. weapon-r has done it for people before i know

I just owned my compressor wheel running no mess or filter...never thought I would cuz the Mugen front bumper runs so far back but it happend. I'll be getting SOMETHING to run when Im not at the track, regardless if I lose 30 or so whp with it

Was the power difference ever confirmed regarding filter vs. no filter?

you could probably get it from any shop that sells the hks filter, or you could even try ebay.

run #57 was WITH a filter
run #58 without a filter

we left the piping on the turbo so it was pullin air from right behind the passenger headlight.

we also made one pull with the intake tube off (and no filter)
the turbo was pulling air from right behind the radiator that time.
we lost 10 whp.

filter on
