Default filter will not fit on filter...

Ok... So, I went and bought a 3" inlet K&N filter for my turbo and it didn't fit... about .5 inch too big... Any suggestions on what I can do to make it fit or maybe another filter. It is a .57 trim T3/T40E w/ a .63A/R. Thanks for the help in advance guys!

whats .5" too big

its .5" too tall or .5" too big to fit around the turbo inlet?

if its too tall, just cut some of the coupler off

If you have any silicone couplers that are the right diameter you can stack it... IE put the coupler on and then mount the filter to that.

Return the filter and order one that will properly fit your turbo.

You can go onto K&n's website and browse through all their filters and norrow it down by sizes. Measure the diameter of the turbo inlet and then determine how large of a filter you can fit in your engine bay and then order it online, or take the part number to a local auto parts store and have them order it for you.

I just clamped down the coupling on to the housing and it seems secure now... it was actually more like .25" too big... not as much as I thought. Kinda' weird because it seems most turbo housings are 3" right?

Not all of them. The standard Garrett T04E 57 trims use 2.5" inlets.

Why stick the filter right on the turbo? Jam a coupler and a short piece of pipe on and stick the filter somewhere cooler. Plus then you can jam a coupler one and then use a pipe the right size for the filter to slip on.

Couplers will clamp down onto smaller pipe and with a little force or some heat, I have gotten 2in couplers onto 2.5in things and a 2.5 coupler onto a 3in turbo inlet.

I believe my inlet was 2.75".. what I did was buy a piece of 2.75" coupler, shaved down the outside with a razor, and used it as a spacer for my 3" filter. Works great. Doesn't really matter all that much - it's better to go too big on the filter than too small.
