Fans again
I bought some 12" fans. They flow 1200cfm each. My old FAL fans flowed 2500cfm for the pair. So I think I am ok here.
Now, I took out my AC so I could mount fans in front of the radiator... But someone posted in my other thread that he did this and his motor would overheat on the highway.
What if I mounted one fan in front and one behind? There is absolutely no way any fan is going to fit between the turbine and the radiator. So I cannot put a fan there. Should I just try both in front and see what happens?
Ideas? Experiences?
Dustin

Re: Fans again (falconGSR)
I have a stock radiator in a GSR.
Unless my manifold is engineered entirely differently then everyone should experience this. The turbine housing is about 2" from the surface of the radiator.

I never over heated with those. I only had one 12" back then. The only time it ever started overheating was when I was trying to put my AC back and had put the condenser back in front of the radiator. This is only when its 100 degrees out. I took that out of there and put a 10" fan up front. No worries whatsoever.

Re: Fans again (dustin)
The fan definitely feels better as a puller rather than a pusher. Especially at idle. I have my front as a pusher doesn't feel like much air is being pushed in.
EDIT: Put one behind and the other in front.

Re: Fans again (LsTurbo91)
maybe tomorrow i can get some good theories from the fluid dynamics guys as to why pulling seems to work better than pushing, and maybe why a fan in the front disturbs things so that these motors actually overheat.

Alright I am not a genious on theis but hear me out. When the fan is in the front and you are driving the air that is coming in is comming in at a grater speed than the air that the fan is moving. The fan instead of helping is actually disrupting the air and therfore overheats your engine. I have seen something like this in a wind tunnel room.

Re: Fans again (RH+G)
Sounds good to me.
Dustin.. so with the maxrev kit there is no space to stuff even a dinky fan on the turbo side? The turbo sits that close? You don't think just one fan would cut it by the intake side? I'd think one good high flow fan should be able to do the job while you're at idle.. I'm proly gonna have to try it out.

Re: Fans again (SlowTeg)
Dustin did you get fans that will work as either pusher or puller types based on how you wire them? I would think you would have to by one or the other. I haven't seen any that are "interchangable"

Re: Fans again (dustin)
2 things:
1)the fans in front of the rad are less of a restriction that the A/C condensor. when on the highway, it should be fine....the fans aren't even on.
2)maybe im a dumbass, but whats the difference between a pusher and a puller fan. either way the fan is doing this:
---> [fan] --->
what does it matter if the rad is in front of the fan or behind it?

Re: Fans again (00SilverLS)
Hmm, well I think it would look much cooler if both fans were in front. I think I'll try that first and if I have cooling problems I'll move them.

Re: Fans again (dustin)
Let me know how that overheating goes for ya! Just get out on the freeway and do 80 and in about 15-20 min. you'll be heating up! But let me know... Just to insure that was what was wrong with my car!
