factory turbos and wastegates
u always hear about people selling turbos off of vovlos or saabs and they have an internal wastegate. i heard that an external wastegate are better. is there any way to convert an internal wastegate turbo to an external wastegate turbo. also what is the difference between a factory turbo and an aftermarket turbo like the ones that come in the drag, fmax, etc... kits.

Re: factory turbos and wastegates (2000si)
well, and "aftermarket" turbo can be sized to whatever you want, while one pulled off a car is just what was made for that car, not a civic etc. External gates are better in some ways, and yes, an internally gated turbo can be disabled for use with an external gate.

Re: factory turbos and wastegates (DeepSi)
depends on which turbo you have and which car it came off. My t3 was converted to external wastegate by just taking off the wastegate actuator and the flapper assembly on the turbine outlet (it was like a downpipe flange with the flapper assembly built in). Other turbos u can take the actuator off and weld the flapper shut
