Fact or fiction?

Fact or fiction?
Do certain piston rings require different types of honing? Someone told me there are 2 types of honding for different piston rings. One type of honing being with a ball, the other being with knives. Is this just bogus? What would stock LS pistons/rings require? If that makes no sense, I apologize. It's 4AM and I haven't slept in days ;P
Thanks,

A cross hatch hone should work just fine for stock LS rings..... I used it when I built my H22A..... worked just fine.....

All the different types of hones will give the same results. I suspect the truth behind this rumor is that some types of rings like the crosshatch pattern to be at a different angle than stock. Some ring manufacturers like a 60 degree pattern while i've seen ones as small as 30 and as big as 90 before.

Re: Fact or fiction? (QuickHonda)
just ask your ring manufacturer before you go honing. stock seem to like a good 60 deg crosshatch. i use a ball hone on everything, works great.

Most rings need a 60 deg cross hatch , the ring manufacturer will tell you what to use. If you are using Honda rings , they specify a 60 deg with a 320 gritt stone , check your honda manual it will say .
