f22a sohc non vtec boost build
Ok all... after blowing my first stock f22 i decided to up the stakes a lil bit so this is where i'm at thus far with my new build. I'm building an f22a4 i picked up after my original f22a6 blew. Well not totally. The cylinders held up great and showed absolutely no signs of cracks so why didn't i re-elect to just rebuild what i had you ask? I'm glad you asked! i didn't rebuild it because i previously had the block bored over .030 and id been tossing around in my mind .."just how much boost can a stock block take"? So with that in mind and not enough money to have it sleeved, being bored .030 was taking a fairly big chunk of iron from my stock cylinders and seeing how under 19 lbs and some cracked ringlands later the cylinders still looked great. i almost elected to go with an 86 mm piston and those are easy to come by as there are several companies out there that produce em but it still lingers in my mind that its thinning the cylinder walls quite a bit and i'm wanting to build a reliable DD. So i elected to have a custom set of 85 mm 9:1's built for me in hopes to make good HP and keep reliability. Thus far the block guard has been fit and the pistons matched to the cylinders and the block has been honed to spec. im waiting on my ring set from wiseco to continue as my "2nd" rings were to loose from what was spec'd. So here is my current build sheet
Engine:
f22a4
9:1 forged pistons
forged H beam rods
KMS block guard
ARP head studs
Stock crank
Toga high volume oil pump
ACL bearings
Hondata s300
precision 880cc injectors
Hondata 4 bar map sensor
hondata electric boost controller
AEM wideband 02 sensor and gauge
OBX intake
omni 70mm throttle body
ACT 6 puck clutch
ACT extreme pressure plate
Walbro 255 fuel pump
ebay turbo log manifold
precision turbo 6152E
turbonetics delta II wastegate
Stock Sohc head with upgrades:
5 angle valve job
mild port and polish
supertech valves(1mm over-sized intake,2mm over-sized exhaust)
bisimoto titanium springs
bisimoto 1.2 cam
bisimoto 5 layer head gasket
bisimoto intake gasket
that about covers the engine. I'll edit it if i forgot anything.

I dont know if you have thought about your trans or not. I had a h22 1st-4th, F22 5th and final drive, it was amazing nice short 1st through 4th and a gas milage 5th.

im shooting for 350 but anything over will be a bonus i guess. im thinking with the oversizes valves and minor port and polish that should really help me getting there.
there was a slight amount of modification to the 5th gears to get them to fit, but yes. I personally didn't do the work. you might check in the transmission forum for info, or pm mike93eh2, he did the work for me. It made a huge difference.
@ wantboost.. no silly.. im turbocharging a brick........ @ scottdh20, i wont get into "those" parts to much as i have a few issues myself and dont want to flame anyone but tnx for the encouragement.. and @ ashb82, what elevation are you at and what octane gas you running?
ok well so far nothing but issues...honed my block and began clearancing and matching my pistons to cylinders... checked ring gap clearance and tops came out to spec. 2nd's were way to loose so i called weisco up and they sent me out another complete set.. Back to building... opps THEY SENT ME THE SAME EXACT WRONG SET. so i called em up again and the send me a tighter set and i filed them myself to specs which was .016 tops ..... and .018 2nd's. on to the build... clearanced my main bearings and they came in ok but rods were to loose so i took my crank and had it micropolished and rechecked the rod bearing clearance.. still to tight.. so i had em take it down a couple 10 thousandths. and they seemed to come in good.. so we assembled the bottom end.. as i went to go get some oil oil pan gasket and a filter to finish up the bottom end... my buddy began to mount the oil pump.. to his dismay the engine was locked up.... upon further inspection and alot of measuring we came to the conclusion that the rod big bore opening was not properly machined to hold the bearings..... after some somewhat heated conversations through email with the manufacturer they are sending me a new set of rods"although they claim the ones i sent back were within tolerances"...PSSSTT HARDLY!!!!!! the bearings seemed to big when they were placed into the h beam rods though they seemed to fit flawlessly when put into my stock rods,,"GO FIGURE"... so as it stands im waiting on another set of rods and ordering another set of rod bearings..... hurry up and wait...
Good to see more F series sohcs getting built. I would think you might want to rethink the gate and spend a couple bucks to upgrade it to a tial or something that will give you better control of boost.
I would think your goal of 350whp should be no problem given your setup and assuming you have someone decent tuning it.

tnx man! yea its just what i got for the time being but eventually ill drop a few bucks and get a tial... i got a lil better then 3k in this baby already and money is running thin these days.. i just want to get her finished up.... and yea i got a really kick *** tuner her in NM..,,, he is the best around the NM area and even into TX and surrounding areas... everyone brings their **** to him .....
[QUOTE=Spawne32;47753008]curious as to how this plays a part in this whole build

thats looks like the computer for tuning the VTECH but i dont have VTECH so i dont need it.. lol.......i know where your going but if you notice how i spell SOCH BANDIT that might tell you i did it on purpose as i always find there is someone quick to correct me......."what is this english class"? lol

so my rods didnt fit properly on the crank and despite several conversations with the manufacture "swearing up and down" they dont make bad rods and have sold hundreds with no issues... i took them to a machine shop along with my crank... upon further measurements they confirmed my initial diagnosis " the RODS DONT FIT" so i put my manufacturer in contact with my machine shop to set the manufacturer straight and the machine shop re sized my rods and checked and polished my crank. they are done and waiting for me to pick em up.. unfortunately i live 100 miles from the machins shop and then another 75 to the shop where im building my engine, so ill go pick em up on thursday and start my build.. more updates and pics to come!
