Default EMS question

I have a quick question that I was hoping someone could help me with. I know that EMS willinterface with my techedge and automap a fuel map by itself. What i dont know is how do i get the ignition map, does it need to be changed from the base map? Or do i hvae to enter each value individually, because if thats the case i will be totoaly lost. Thanks for any and all info.
Oh i have been on the ems forum quite a bit, but thought that i would get more help from you guys, who I know.

Thanks

Rob

You could do, but why not buy a system that has the correct values in the first place 8-)

That is, if the values are correct.

No one on the EMS forums has a set-up like yours? that way all you have to do is upload their maps into your EMS and tunned the map from there. I was lucky Quaalude send me his calibration and it was a pretty damn good one so there wasn't much change plus I had help from another EMS user.

So if I buy an older untio off of someone else, can I upload the new software to the ems so i can run the latest? Or is it like hondata and have to buy another system?

The EMS is software upgradable, so every time they release new software you merely connect your laptop to the EMS via the provided serial cable and upload the new version. Each upgrade includes utilities to convert your old maps to the new version.

Everyone that I know that has used hondata, has definatly had to tune the maps. On a seperate note, are the base maps that come with EMS, evan close? I know that it depends upon setup and all, but generally speaking, can you start the car?

Its far from rocket science. I had mine up and running in just under an hour.

What setup are you planning on. I can look through the maps on the CD/forum and let you know.

Hehe, your so funny Adam. I would love for Doug to try and talk hondata up on ems.....but why bother fighting a losing battle.

Hmm, thats pretty much my setup. I wouldnt give you my map cause its kinda screwy now. I cant get a decent idle cause of a possible lazy IAC. I want to ditch it and just get a nice idle by playing with timing and fuel and couple other things.

What version are you running?

0.89 is the version I'm using till the 1.0 comes out.

Only prob I can even mention is a 25-50 rpm (yeah Im picky) drop in idle when the radiator fan comes on.

you might want to seriously consider sticking with hondata. its the most streetable solution. aem ems v 1.0 software might change everything if its THAT good... but miracles are hard to come by in this business.

and there you have it Doug. you didnt get my $$$ but think of the people that are sent your way thanks to people like me who can offer an honest and unbiased opinion even though i chose a different option. so thanks for the ignition maps. its a fair trade in my book.

Actually we prefer that our dealers have a wide range of tuning experience in as many engine management systems as possible. That way they are able offer the customer the best advise.

Well i know that Art has had both, but It all comes down to whats going to be easiest to tune, and long term reliablilty, for me anyhow. I have to understand how it works, thats just the way that i am. So any and all info and comments are welcome.
