I'm in the market for an electronic boost controller after my cheap manual boost controller would not hold boost on the dyno (would hit 20 psi and drop to 14 psi). I need one that holds boost (doesnt spike or drop much) and is around the $300 mark. Also it should be fairly user friendly. So what do you guys use on your rides and which one do you recomend? Thanks in advance.
A good manual will work great. I had no problems holding like 30psi on my Turbo XS.
I swapped out to an AVCR though without enthusiasm. But its not difficult to use and set like others say. But then again I have the gear based and speed based settings set to 0

I was told that under little load (such as on a dyno) a manual boost controller won't work as well and thats the reason why my boost will hold 20 psi on the street but will drop from 20 to 14 psi on the dyno. I was told to get an electronic boost controller because of the soleniod which pulsates and regulates boost better. Thats why I'd like to get an electronic boost controller. Any other suggestions?

my blitz dual sbc has been holding 28 psi all day long on my car, i need staged boost control so it will be for sale after the end of the season.
I also had no problem holding 28psi with the turbo xs manual.
I just switch to a avc-r for the gear dependent control. 20+psi in first wasn't doing a whole lot of good.

I bought the apexi AVCR back in the winter for my race car I am building. It has many features including scramble boost, and gear learning boost for different boost levels for each gear. I think Im going to sell it soon tho because I heard the gear based learning sucks ***. Im looking at the quad stage from turboxs now. If you dont want many stages get a turboxs dual stage. Its cheap and effective
Blitz id electronic boost controller. allows you to set boost by speed/gear and gives you psi and speed readings.

I think I have my choices narrowed down a bit. I have been hearing good things about Greddy profecs. I'd just like to know which of these 3 are the best....profec b-1, profec b-2, profec type S? Does anyone have any experience with these and if so did it hold boost (didn't spike or drop)? Let me know which one of these 3 you all recomend.

Stop hearing and start doing. Try it out yourself. I, as well as many others, have no issues with it.

Thanks for your input but I'd like to hear more reviews of a product that I am about to pay $300 of my hard earned cash for. I'm not going to just go out and drop a weeks paycheck (summer internship's don't pay real well) for something that is going to take a crap on my in a few weeks and doesn't hold boost. Any more reviews of the profec's would be apprieciated.

Whether or not there are boost spikes is usually another issue. wrong spring for the boost wanted, operating out of the turbos effective range (surge), leaks in the piping to the engine and other things, can all cause problems that look something like boost not holding steady.
they work as well as you tune them
I had the Profec spec 2 and honestly I hated it. I couldnt get it to work right for the life of me. Nor could my tuner at that time. But I got it when it was first released. I dont know if people actually figured it out or not.
LIke I said the AVCR works fine for low and high boost without the gear basing. I havent played with it much on those settings, but I have tinkered with them a tad bit and seemed somewhat user friendly. just takes some patience and reading the manual.
Honestly, unless you need gear based, then manual is more then fine

Yeah I have just started looking at the Apexi AVC-R and they look pretty good too. I like the features that come with that device. I may try to get one of those even though the price of those is a bit higher. I used to have a V-AFC and I thought it was alittle hard to use but that was like 2 years ago. Does anyone have an AVC-R for sale for a decent price?
you can get em new on Ebay for like $350
If you cant figure out a VAFC, you wont figure out an EBC.

i have an avc-r and i love it. very steady. it never over shoots and holds 14psi rock steady throughout the whole rev range. plus i can do boost per gear and it has scramble boost function.

Basically you can make the boost controller use different settings for a short period of time after it goes into boost.
So if you run stock boost at .9 bar and whenever you wanted a little more boost on top of that instantly (lets say 1.1bar), you would hit the scramble button and you boost up to 1.1bar for a short period of time.
