I am planning on getting a exhaust temp gauge.. just a few questions.
my buddy said it is best to place it as close to the manifold as posible is this true?
ok here is were I really need help, he is wondering as am I, if it can be placed on the dump tube.. does the wastegate flow exhaust under wot? or would it just be best to install it in the down pipe?

The best place to tap the EGT sensor is on one of the manifold runners. Which one is best? It's been debated to death so it's really your decision.

i had mine right after the turbo on the dp... it worked fine for me... if anything... i would guess the temp would be a few degrees off... but this was only a guess? does anyone actually know the temp differance or a formula to figure it out... for before and after the turb0o?

I put mine directly in the turbo, right past the manifold flange, that way it see's heat from all the cylinders, and there is plenty of room with the drag manifold

Its not like you'd see the sum of all the individual temps, you'll see the average, which isn't what you want. You want the peak, so you should read it at the leanest cylinder.

I've also heard #3 - that's the one that I'm putting mine in . . . someday when I actually have time to do it.

Anyone using 4 EGT gauges? that way you monitor each cylinder individually.
