i really dont want to tap my manifold. can i put it in the top of the downpipe.
what are the drawbacks of not taping #3 in the right spot..

Picture this: You have a burning candle and you want to find out the temperture at which its burning. To get an accurate measurement, would you hold your measuring device at the tip of the candle, a few inches above the flame, or around the blue part of the flame...
the point is, you want to get as close to the souce of the flame which is right after the exhuast gasses leave the cylinder. On Honda's cylinder 3 appears to be the hottest, so use that as your measuring source...
