EGT guage probe installation?
I have a EGT guage I want to install... would it be bad for the turbo if I just drill the whole in the manifold in the car? WOuld the metal shaveing just blow out or can it damage anything? thanks for your help

You can always hold a magnet up beside the drill-bit to catch shavings.
I always install them about 1-2" after the tubine on the downpipe. This will yield cooler temperatures but I would rather do this than run the chance of the probe breaking and the turbo chewing it up. With proper tuning you'll know where your EGT's should be so if something drastic happens you'll know by the change in egt readouts.

poop on that....normally I agree with PrecisionH23a has to say, but I had two different EGT gauges for almost three years total with the probe 2 inches from the head on runner #3 and NEVER did it even look like there was a possibility of the probe breaking off.
You get a more true reading from the head than after the turbo......

When you know how to tune, you don't need to watch a lousy EGT gauge Widebands are what count in my opinion since EGT's can be misleading.
You are correct though, placing it on the runner will get you another 100-200 degrees of accuracy when compared to on the downpipe.... but about 4yrs ago I have personally seen a probe break off and ruin a gt35r turbo. So since this I always place them on the downpipe. To each his own though... it doesn't bother me what you do

Very true statement, I would also prefer W/B, then you would know why your egt's are rising.

Re: EGT guage probe installation? (mike1114)
I put mine about an inch after the turbine in the downpipe. That's where the autometer instructions said to mount it in a boosted car. So that's where I put it.
So maybe the actual temps are a bit higher than are reading, the gauge still serves it's purpose in that it tells me when things are getting hotter than normal.
