ebay turbo kit
i searched and read some info on ebay turbos. basically i've learned that the intercoolers, wastegates, and blow off valves are good, and turbos and manifolds are no good. well i was looking around ebay and i saw that someone was selling a used turbonetics kit. i just wanted your opinions because i'm a noob when it comes to F/I and i'm just in the process of learning/purchasing pieces for my kit. instead of buying the pricey kits, i was planning to piece together my own kit. if i do purchase this kit, i am going to buy a different turbo (t3/t4) and a new manifold to fit my car. would it be worth 260 for this kit? i'm just asking for a little help.

If you get a different turbo and manifold, then you will need a different downpipe and different charge pipes. What in the "kit" would still be usable?

Just like the old saying.. pick 2 of the 3 and the 3rd is what you wont have.
Cost
Speed
Reliability
If you just wanna rock out with 250whp or so and just lookin for a little bit of fun, sure why not. I had a buddy of mine buy an ssautochrome kit, slapped it on his gsr and made around 290whp.. rippin on the streets. Depends on your pockets.

Re: ebay turbo kit (Jxi8s2k)
it depends on if you want a relieable system
i dont like to use off brand mechanical parts. tial is great for wastegates and blow off valves.
intercoolers you cant really go wrong altho there is a big difference between good quality intercoolers and ebay intercoolers.
ebay has become a market to ripping people off. IMO maybe the price is good but the quality is garbage. but if you are just looking to mess around and not have anything serious then ebay is your place.
however if you are looking to have something respectable and make some serious quality power. then you might want to look into piecing together your own kit

aside from making quality power, isn't piecing your own kit cheaper? i'm looking to spend about 800-1000$ on my kit. the bulk of the money is probably gonna come from the EMS so i'm hoping to find cheap parts. also, i know a tune is the key to making good power/reliable engine, but is it necessary to get a tune for about 8 psi?

Re: ebay turbo kit (Jxi8s2k)
On such a budget you obviously cant afford to make mistakes. Choose your parts wisely and do your research. Ask around regardless of how tedious it might seem. Especially here on HT folks tend to get annoyed when your questioning the quality of cheap parts. expletive them, do what you gotta do to stay within your budget.
My philosphy:
1. research
2. confirm quality
3. find part for good price
Btw check hondamarketplace.com. There are lots of sponsors there selling lots of parts at good prices.

Re: ebay turbo kit (Jxi8s2k)
i spent 950.00 on my full race prostreet manifold & tial wastegate lol
definitly when you are on a budget a mistake will cost you a shitload of time!
so plan plan plan and make no mistakes, you wont if you do alot of research and buy accordingly.
tuning is key, i would rather have great tuning and a Ok turbo kit, as tuning & EMS will get your setup to run correctly, you can always later go and upgrade parts

Re: (Jxi8s2k)
when you go to the main page you will see "Sponsor Marketplace" and "Honda-Tech Marketplace". Sponsors are typically shops or distributors that are overstocked and are willing to let lots of parts go at a cheap price. For used parts or new parts sold privately go to "Honda-Tech Marketplace" to see peoples' personal for-sale threads.

Re: (ragethemachine86)
Just be careful on the market place. I have gotten a turbo with in/out and so much side play that it wasn't worth trying.
Manifolds threads stripped and everything else. There are definately people here that will scam you even if they do in fact send you what they are selling.
Find turbojesse for manifolds downpipes. Expensive but definately golden. That is what I am saving for.
Good luck and it is possible. Also there is a guy on ebay that sells IC piping for around 200.00 that is pretty good.

Re: (sauceja)
yeah but dont always trust the IC piping kits. i bought one for my prelude and only the passenger side fit, the rest of nonsense. i fixed the problem though by using pieces out of the 2nd kit they sent me by accident

If you are talking to me then I have bought some stuff right here at the market place on honda-tech and gotten some shady stuff. Never been straight jacked but people will lie all day to sell things.
Only buy from reliable people that will stand behind what they sell. No matter what it is.

Re: ebay turbo kit (1SlowSi)
I will add that, a customer went with an ebay blow off valve and all it did was leak. Its was a type S .Intercoolers are fine, and it depends on the turbo that they are using. I have seen companies sell fake knock off turbonetics turbos.
I will also say the cheap intercooler piping is just that, cheap. The companies word it so it seems like the piping is aluminum when in reality its coated mild.
Piecing together a kit is always cheaper.

those pipes arent beaded. i doubt youd even get 8 psi before you start blowing couplers off.
