make sure the straps cross, like front left tow hook to the right side of the dyno. otherwise high hp fwd cars can walk off the side

also, make sure the straps dont cross under the downpipe, ive seen one burn through before.

FI cars equipped with vtec should begin dynoing with vtec engaged from down low in the rpms or have disabled for a few baseline runs to make necessary timing fuel adjustments before full out runs. it is impossible to add 50% more fuel on the fly when vtec kicks in. also note that you should tune your gears for the VTEC lobe and not the mid/low cam.
I have seen numerous ITR's and what not explode on the dyno because the above was not considered.

I almost had a turbocharged B16A plough into me because of its external wastegate open dumptube burning one of the straps.. lucky the guy driving the car on the dyno was quick with the clutch and brake.. i learnt a lesson from that.. always watch a dynorun from the rear, much more safer

In the 4 years I've owned my dyno, I've had only one accident.

FWD 2G eclipses do not have tow hooks, so the front of the car must be tied down using axle straps around the front control arms. (I always use the straight and cross straps on any car that can recieve them, for safety's sake). This makes the car a little less stable, especially since the Eclipse does not have equal length axles. Anyway, I some how missed the fact he had an open wastegate that emptied about 4 inches above the cross strap. On the 4th run, it burnt and stretched through it, and the car skidded off to the side. Fortunately, the operator (who wasn't even a trained one at that), had the quick thought to clutch in, and no damage was done to the vehicle or anything else besides the strap. No injuries either, aside from pride. But I'll never make that mistake again.

I've had a Benson sleeve slip on the dyno, pressurizing the coolant system and making a pancakes & syrup spray like you wouldn't believe. Valve train failures, clutches slip, tranny's break, rods exiting, pistons melting, and lower than expected output are some of the snafu's I've seen The cool thing about blowing things up on the dyno is that at least tow trucks aren't involved

if you do run into this situation, this can be solved by placing a rag soaked in water between the strap and the downpipe/exhaust system. Just remember to change it every few runs or so - or it has the possibility of catching on fire

Worst thing i have seen Is a guy let go of the steering wheel before the dyno had slowed down and the wheels flipped to full lock and got jammed in between the rollers. Screeeeeeechhhh as the rollers bit into the tyres!

The guy is a total space cadet, he shouldn't own a dyno. It does not computer plot the readings - he gets the car up to the RPM he's interested in puts the load on and takes a power reading on a notepad so he is constantly loading and unloading the engine which ain't exactly nice. And it's next to useless as he only take readings in 500rpm units. He's blown a number of engines as he is stressing things for so long.

I was in the dino with my brothers car and the engine colapsed,(4b hondata sfp kit, fully bilt engine) only the head and the pistons survived, everithing else including the block was lost, bad machinnig on the rods caused engine faliure, no one took resposability.

aparently two of the crower rods where bent side ways less than a milimiter when we send the to change the copper ring to reduce piston-rod free play.

4000 dolars later we where in the clear.

Watch the timing, buddy of mine lost a motor a couple months ago by having to much timing built in up top. Cracked the stock sleeve pressurized the cooling system and radiator blew. Nothing a few simple changes couldn't have prevented. Later Allen

In addition to that, watch from the rear and TO THE SIDE. I was sorta behind a single turbo Supra dyno and after the operator let off the gas, it emitted a huge ball of flame about 5 feet from the exhaust. Scared the **** out of people behind it, but looked bada$$!!!

I don`t have any horror stories to speak of, but you should see the look on S2000 Owner faces when they lose power w/ 3k worth of "jdm" bolt-ons

the oil pump gears have never faild on me, now there are two kinds of honda pumps, one is the 94-95 pr-3 series pump and theres the 96-2001 p72 I have pushed 392.3 whp on the stock pump and never had problems and the cars that represent the dino tunner shop that i go to are pushing 530 whp on stock pump and nothing happend, now if you pass the 30,000 mile range pushing more than 300 hp on the stock pump maybe the pump could brake or maybe the pump brakes when you have a 10,000 rpm rev limit or something like that.

my pump i have changed it twice, everytime I do a rebild I change the pump to a brand new one. maybe that is why i have no encounterd that problem.
