Dyno Adventure. . . .
I went down to jotech to get my car dynoed last Thursday and do I have a story. We get there at 3:30 am thursday morning coming from Memphis, we get some sleep and get to Jotech around 10:30. After 9 dyno runs I gain about 9whp and 9 ft/lbs but gain a nice amount of power from 3500 on up. But on the 10 run they tune the boost up on my avcr from 7psi to 8.5psi. On that pull the wastegate keeps opening and closing the smoke everywhere. It puts down 296/225. The tuner says our time is up and sets the boost back at 7 psi. When he is pulling the car back around its not sounding to good. They take the car in the bay to take the wideband O2 out and then pull the car out front. So my friend and I go out to the car pop the hood and do a compression test. 135-135-135-0. We go back inside to see whats up. They say they arn't responsible for anything. After a little talking with Kenny we push the car aound into the bay and do a lead down. We ask if he would let us use his bay to pull the car apart. So we pull it apart and about 30% of the ringland is broke off. I call home and have 2 stock gsr pistons fedex overnighted down. The next day the pistons are there at 9am and we have it together in about 4 hours. We double checked for leaks and headed home. I'm sure I would have made some more power with higher compression #'s but this will do while I build my other block.
why didnt that tuner tell you.. ooops i blew your motor.. damn i would sue them.. i hate it when people play stupid like that.. like umm i dont know what happened.
damn is that a 4th gear or 5th gear run? Sheesh, thats why I ask them to do in third less stress on the motor and I don't boost that long especially when tuning.
They turned up the boost on the avcr to 8.5 psi but for some reason the tial wastegate kept opening and closing. It deffinatly boosted more than 8.5 psi. Does anyone know what kinda compression reading is normal for a stock b18c1?

220 really damn I was thinking more like 190. Yes the dyno was done in 4th I have a LS tranny. He said he uses 4th because you get better readings from the wideband O2.
You made a big mistake running the car 10 times in a row on the dyno,,i use an emissions dyno and i can tell you that a car gets smoking hot after a pull and thats with a huge fan in front cooling it(hope those boys a jotech had a fan on it).even with a huge fan, there's nothing like the air flow you get driving the car down the road, just look at your speedo,120mph,u think you had that kind of air flow passing thru it as if you where actually doing 120,no way.i say you would have needed at least 20 mins between pulls with a fan cooling down in between pulls, personally,i dont like dyno's,maybe just for a ball park tune, then bring it to the track and tune it there and at least if you blow it up there, your behind the wheel, not some dyno operator.

I dont know what to say about jotech but if it makes u feel any better I think you have a tight civic hatch.. im liking the white Geeser wheels..
Thanks for the props on the car. Truthfully I'm not to fond of the powder coated wheels. I normally roll on 17" tenzo type c's but they rub alot so I wanted something smaller for the trip to TX.
IMHO you are wrong about dyno pulls. I learn more in one dyno session than 3 sessions at the track. If you have a proper set up and a good tuner, 10 pulls in a couple of hours is no big deal. I always come off the dyno running fast or knowing what changes I need to make it right.
All the passes were made within 1 hour. Yes there was a huge fan in front of the car but I see what you are saying about how its nowhere near the flow of going 120mph.
What have heard about Jotech? And for the people in TX, where do you all go?
