Default Dumptube to downpipe - what is your method of connecting them?

I recently received my manifold and downpipe for my setup. Unfortunately the jerkoff didn't finish it, don't ask. Anyhow, the dumptube originally ran to the downpipe, where a larger piece of pipe was welded to the downpipe.

He called this a "slip-fit" design, where the smaller diameter dumptube pipe would slide into the larger one. He claimed that this would work, and prevent cracking due to the difference in thermal expansion.

I agree about the difference in thermal expansion, however is he full of BS? Is a "slip-fit" setup just a cheap-*** way to run the dumptube? Or, Will flanges work as well (and allow for enough thermal expansion so that nothing cracks)?

I am worried about the damn thing leaking.....Anyone have any opinions?

I've seen this done before.. it works I guess. but normally ppl slide the dumtube flex pipe OVER the pipe on the downpipe then clamp it.

i dont suggest running the wastegate exhaust back into your downpipe, why do you want to put any more exhaust into your system when you can just vent it out and help speed things up a bit

I do suggest running the wastegate exhaust back into the downpipe. Why should you harm the environment to make 2 or 3 extra horsepower?

I can always tell who isn't a member of SEMA.

if you are going to reroute the dump tube back into the exhaust, i suggest using a flex section/small bellow. they make little tiny ones....1.5/8 in. is the smallest i think. they wont leak when cold like some slip fits and can give you more room for error when building the part...since you can move them a little more.

A little bellow you say? I don't suppose anyone has any sort of a link that could provide more info? I know that running the dumptube open will result in more HP - but I am environmentially friendly (plus I don't want the loud freakin' noise of the dumptube as well).....
