wrong. You can EASILY overspin the turbo.

True dat. Dont listen to uneducated people like the one above.

You can burn up the bearings in the turbo by overspinning it.

w/ out piping the turbo will just spool up to infinity. Nothing to stop it. If you drive w/ out piping for any extended period of time you can put money on it that you will damage your turbo.

Make sense.
i been in numerous situations where I drove my car numerous times with no piping, on diff setups.
**** was fine, but then agian i wasn't out racing people with it.
there is no way the turbo is going to spool itself if your not giving it throttle to spool it.

Yeah, listen to these guys. I was in the same situation as you. If it's not in a closed loop, you will overspin your turbo greatly.

There's a fix to this problem however. If you have a tial wastegate, take the fire ring and flip it backwards. With the smaller diameter facing the manifold/elbow. This will keep your wastegate open and have alot of the exhaust gases going out the dumptube. There shouldn't be enough gas to get the turbo to spin into boost. I only did this to drive from the exhaust shop back home (5 miles) It was damn noisy but it got the job done. I wouldn't suggest doing this, but if it's your only option - it's a good way to keep your turbo safe. Just be sure it doesn't spool.

Another solution isto make yourself a really really ghetto-*** exhaust dump. We had the same problem on my buds civic when we were taking it for the turbo back exhaust and intake piping, so we unbolted the turbo from the manifold, duct taped it to the head (so we wouldn't be leaking oil from the feed and return lines) and welded a flange onto some 2.25" piping with a stock muffler from a mustang To show you what I mean, here is my all-star drawing. Notice the elite front mount effect

Like mentioned above you acn drve it, just don't get on it... I had to drive my car with no piping to a shop to get it made... I had a half cut downpipe and no charge pipes whatsoever... Just take it slow and you should be fine... ...
