Doing a top mount IC in my EF.
so i'm gonna put a top mount IC from an rx7 turbo II in my ef. Gonna cut a hole in the hood and run it flush but exposed. The short and easy charge pipes is a bonus. My original goal was 300 whp. I'm just hoping this top mount won't hurt me too bad. Turbo is an sc50 on a b18a btw.
the intercooler your looking at isn't the most efficient intercooler evar.
I wouldn't do that. Especially when i could go colledct change at the mall for 2 months and buy a JRC front mount with some charge pipes
The rx ic is small and when mounted on top of your motor terribly prone to heat soak.
If your want to do it to have a functinoal hole in yoiur hood then
thats cool more powa!
I konw the frist thing my buddy got rid of on his rx was the top mount :D :D :D
high boost through that thing is like asking for detonation.

If you're already going to be cutting holes in your hood you might as well buy an aftermarket Subaru style hood scoop. If you find someone who is good with body work you could actually make it look like a stock subaru hood.
honestly I dont think that intercooler is really the best option but it would be a unique idea
performance wise you would be better off with a decent front mount because of the heatsoak
but good luck with it anyway

three things wrong I see here
1.) I don't think that RX-7 IC is going to cut it for 300whp
2.) the intercooler position is bad because hot air from the engine will heat up the IC instead of helping it cool (not helping case 1 either)
3.) if you don't put a scoop on the hood water will enter you engine ba through the intercooler...not too good if you have electronics in that area
Do what you want since it's different, but think about my thoughts

Have you test fitted this intercooler yet. Subaru's and Rx7's have additional room above the engine for these, is there even any room to run something like this. It definitly couldn't be above the valve cover and probably not even above the intake manifold.
i have seen this done on another honda, the I/C was in the area where the stock airbox, use to be, it really didnt get too heatsoaked from underhood temps but because of the size and area you have to work with it will get heated up.
but it can be done and is better than no intercooler.
