do these pistons and rods look good
rods are probably fine, but that piston wither is junk or needs work...notice the crack next to the exhaust relief. We also need pictures of the side skirts to see if there was heat damage.
You can see detonation spots on the outside of the intake reliefs....classic

Yeah I guess I shouldn't have said crack

i'd neve resue those pisotns in a performance engine. the $ isn't worth chancing loosing a motor over. it's a far safer bet for you to go buy a new set than to reuse those that might have issues. also if nothing else witht he chunk of material taken out that could mean a hot sport, and also weight will be off so balancing of the motor will be difficult.
ya that piston isnt any good, it might come apart on u, if its slaped a valve it could be close to cracking. not worth the risk
definitly check to make sure the pistons are not damaged(little burrs in crown could cause hot spots at heavy loads), out of round or have taper beyond spec. u can use a micrometer, or take them to a machine shop. and you also should have the rods checked for stretching, twisting, bending, and out of round. and make sure the pistons and rods are all in balance, if unbalanced to much it could cause unwanted vibration which could posibly lead to extra stress on the crank and cause shortend life span of the engine. exspecialy with a high performance engine have them checked.
