Default Dirty Block

I am not sure how, but when the machine shop did all my work, they hot tanked the block (so they say) and it is still pretty filthy. I have the short block still apart and wanted to sand blast it, I am woried the blast may make it in to the cylinder walls or the crank, etc. Does anyone have any ideas how I can blast it to clean it to make it loook new?
I do not want to paint over the dirt or anything and really did not want to paint it at all, but I do not want a disgusting looking block either.

I am open to suggestions and hope someone can help me out here.

FYI, the block is still unassembled, it has been thoroughly cleaned inside and the honing is done already as well.
Thanks

just tape everything REAL well, and use bead blast instead of sand if your worried. or just sand the outside well then paint it.

I thought to sand it with like a 800 or 600 grit, but I was worried the metal flaking may leave residue?

You guys don't think it will harm the internals, or cylinder walls? I am very nervous after spending 500 on machine work.

Clean the block with some cleaner/degreaser, tape as much as you can off where you don't want paint with masking tape and paint it. I use Dupli-Color High Heat Ceramic (Aluminum DH1606). I used it on my last block which had quite a bit of work done on and I will be using it on my new block.

I used full strength Castrol Super Clean to clean my block and it did a terrific job! I couldn't believe that that kind of cleaning power is available in a non-solvent.
