Default decision time, please help!

maybe you've seen the earlier posts, but i've boiled my options down to 2.

to summarize, my ringlands are toast, probably due to to detonation that occurred before i had a reasonable fuel setup. this is a 2000 lude sh, h22a4 motor, jrsc. i have 440cc injectors and a pms computer now to tune properly for the next go around.

option 1 :

$350 diagnose / pull head (done)
$250 pull block
$200 get block honed locally
$300 buy new honda pistons & rings
$700 put it all back together

$2600

option 2 :

$350 diagnose / pull head (done)
$250 pull block
$120 send block to and from GE
$950 GE sleeve, hone, deck
$300 je 10:1 pistons and rings, 87mm (stock) bore
$700 put it all back together

$3600

the other factor is time - while GE is relatively quick (at least not much longer than the 2 weeks i'm looking at to get it honed locally), the JE pistons are going to take at least 4 weeks to get... and maybe more.

so i'm thinking it's plan 1, unless someone thinks that with proper fuel and timing management the rings are gonna go AGAIN on a 9psi h22.

From my experience, even with -0- detonation, 5g h22a pistons just collapse
under boost.

For $1000 difference, I just wouldn't risk it. I think the investment is worthwhile with 9psi (even with proper fuel management), to get it sleeved. Then you can ge a little more power by boring a bit more.

There was for sale post of someone with a h22a4 block sleeved by GE. He wanted $1000 for it. Search the classified section. He sent me some pics, but then didn't answer any of my questions.

See there is a little black spot in the middle sleeve on rimg0005? I asked if that was just a blemish and where the block came from but didn't get a response. It may even be sold now.

hmm. besides je (6 weeks is too long to wait) and arias (too noisy, fwih) what's a reasonable forged piston? srp (same as je anyway) doesn't have any h22 pistons. wiseco? what about forged pistons in the stock frm sleeves?

From my experience, even with -0- detonation, 5g h22a pistons just collapse
under boost.

schwett, go and look for the ad under classifieds. it's only about a week old. his name is brian and he runs prospeed performance the online store that chips ecu's. i bought my mounts off oh him and received them within a week from cali to new york. very trustworthy and he'll chat with you on im.

and damn, where the hell are you getting je pistons with rings for $300. is that even cost? it's so damn low. usually at least $500.

anyway, je usually don't make a bunch of h22a pistons. i had the shop i goto rpmnyc in new york do a block for someone i knew in north carolina. damn pistons took 1.5 months to come in after they said it would only be 3 weeks initially.

might want to check with endyn if you want the pistons quickly.
Everyone says you cant use forged pistons in the h22a block, and i think
its a load of ****, but i cant prove or disprove it because I dont have an h22a of
my own to test on.

that was a typo - 650 or so for the pistons, pins, rings. the total diff is still $1000
