Default Dart Block vs. Sleeving Block?

I was looking for some opinions on what I should do here. I built my engine cheaply and it blew at 14psi the other night. The cylinders are wasted and will more than likely need sleeved. I am going to build another and use quality parts this time. The question is, will a Dart block be superior to a stock sleeved block? After doing some reading about the Dart block, it seems like it is made from better materials and will hold up better under high load/high rpm operation. For the difference in price compared to getting my block done by Benson or ERL or GE would it be worth going the extra step? I don't want to start another "this sleeve is better than this sleeve" thread, so please if you don't have any good input, don't post. Thanks for helping and for your input.

Darton is another company that manufactures sleeves like the ones you listed....I think you are reffering to a Dart block not darton. And as far as i have learned dont even waste you time there are hundreds of people who have had great success with sleeving a stock block....lets make that thousands of people. That Dart block is to pricey with trying to match up parts and make it work

i remember reading in a thread, somewhere, i think earl wrote it, or whomever, there was a **** load of metal left in the dart block after machining, and they shipped it that way.

the only experience i have with them is a friend got one of their blocks and the bell housing bolt holes werent tapped deep enough, accessory bolt holes didnt line up.

this was 2 years ago and i hope they have resolved it by now.

In the end it will be cheaper to just sleeve it than buy a dart block.

Sleeve is like around $1K with shipping

Dart block is like $1900

Then both need bearings and sheit...

At 14psi, a stock block would be fine. I would look into why your motor blew as well...failed injector, bad tune, etc???????

Dart have improved on their blocks after what Earl said about them. It's good to know that Dart keep themselves up to date with customer's feedbacks.

I purchased the Dart block 2 months ago. I've actually printed out on paper of Earl's posts regarding the Dart block and all the necessary "extra machining" that he did. To my surprise, all the things Earl pointed out was already machined (such as threads are now full depth, flashings were removed, etc...). There was still prep work, but great to see how they vastly improved.

Here in Toronto there isn't any shops that I trust with a full resleeving job. If I were to ship it down to say Earl, the shipping plus downtime is just too much. Dart block was a better alternative to me, which was about $500 more than a resleeving job including shipping and taxes. I also managed to sell off my old stock block for about $150, which was alright. The Dart block also had turbo Honda guys in mind. The block ribbings at where the turbo usually sits are all gone, purposely left out in the casting but the material there was noticeably thicker to still retain its integrity. The block gave me probably 2" of clearance now between my compressor housing and the block I have room for a GT42RS if I wanted one j/k

they r both just as reliable, except that you will spend more
money on the dart block. and if im not mistaken that using the dart block
disqualifies you from runnin in sfwd and t4
