not sure about A6 + Y8 but....
I have a Z6 head + Y8 block and ARP z6 studs..... They all fit but one, which was replaced by a stocker.
That doesnt answer your question, but may help put you in the right direction

Re: D16a6 with D16y8 head...head studs? (unsungsohc)
I just assembeled my a6 y8 mini me and i used y8 studs... They all fit but one and it was to long so I cut it to the right length. The z6 studs are shorter and wont even come out of the top of the head. Also the reason the one bolt is to long is because the hole in the block isnt deep enough but the a6 head makes up for that by making the bolt sit up higher in one spot, so you need to cut the last bolt shorter for the y8 head since it dosnt compensate for the smaller hole in the block like the a6 head.
