Default D16 cam help

so i recently added a zex 105300 to my boosted built single cam. upon install when i set the base timing to the 16 degrees and set it in hondata and the timing is very retarded. i tried 16 degrees and 18 and 18 was a little better. i am using the stock cam gear for now and i double checked the timng belt for it possibly being a tooth off but its not. i can get the car to run normal by advancing it more on the distributor but i want it to run good at the 16 or 18 degree mark so things arnt messed up and advancing it like that doesnt register on any mark on the crank pulley.. so i guess the question would be does anyone have an idea whats the deal and what is the best way to accomplish getting the car to run like it did with the stock y8 cam at the 16 or 18 degree mark... adj cam gear? i suck at explaining things sorry

lol difficult to understand...

are you saying you are idling much better with 18deg?
and you set the hondata to 16? then just sync it so that it will have the same reading.

its okay to idle the car at 18. no problem with that.

tryin to be a lil more clear it idles at 16 and 18 its just when driving it is extremely retarded at both it takes the crank pulley to be at like 22 for it to run and rev normally and i set it tot 22 in hondata just would prefer to be at 18 and with a cam gear i should be able to get it down there just wondering if that makes sense and if this is normal with this cam? any problems with running 22 degrees base timing?

Do you know for sure if the cam is intended for a Y8 or a Z6? Also, is your cam gear a Y8 or Z6 camgear. Both of these things make a huge difference (about 9 degrees of crankshaft timing).

its for sure a y8 head checked the numbers and the cam is the zex/comp 105300 and it is intended for the y8 and the cam gear thats on it is is the y8 five spoke gear. the only thing i can think of is maybe they sent me the z6 95300 cam on accident but idk if they have the number stamped on the cam or not. and so to say they that it is for the z6 what whould i have to do to compensate for the crankshaft timing

ok so i got a cam gear and no matter what i do with it it will not run solid at the 18* mark on thee crank pulley im a little confused with this... itll run just when driving it there isnt anything there its just sluggish untill i advance the distributor and its fine which un syncs hondata. so really the only thing i can think oof is to figuure out how much advance is making it run right and then start adding timing throughout the whole map but idk if thats the logical way...?? something wrong with the cam??

If it's a Z6 cam, the cam timing will be out by 4.5 degrees. You need to either advance or retard the camgear 4.5 degrees (5 is close enough). It depends though on how you put the timing belt onto the camgear as to wether you need to retard or advance. The only way to know is to try one way, and then try and set your ignition timing. If the distributor is near the center of the slots with the correct ignition timing (16-18 degrees), then you know you got it right. If the distributor is way off to one end of the slot, then you went the wrong way.

so heres what i did i put the y8 cam gear on it again and i can get the 18 degrees with the dizzy near center and itll run but its still sluggish not nearly as bad but still slugish... maybe they need oodles of tuning but i havnt read that i know it needs some but it feels like 3 or 4 degrees is pulled from the entire map with the cam at 18*... and another question say it is a z6 cam instead when i set the ignition timing to 18 would it really be like its at 14 or will it read the same 16 no matter what just run differently
