Default D series head question

I am newer to hondas, been doing research on building my d16y8 for boost and have been getting alot of scatterd answer on one subject..

I have been reading alot about people putting the z6 head on the y8 block.

My question is, I will be building the head, p&p, upgraded valve train ect... What is the advantage to have the z6 head on the y8 block over have the y8 head? specifically for boost, will it matter after they are built? is one more stout than the other? im looking to push 350-380.

talk to your tuner.
ask them for advice because ultimately your tuner will tell you if he's confident and confortable pushing stock d series sleeves that far.

IMHO 350whp on stock sleeves is right about where I would start to get worried.
Also don't try that on a small turbo. Get a meduim size turbo and run lower boost.... sure it may be laggy but your post didn't mention anything about powerband, just topend power goals. lol

It's been a long time since i looked at casting intake ports of z6 vs. y8....
can't remeber which one is better.
But honestly for 400whp..... i don't think it matters... just worth with what you got.

Ya the block will be forged, sleeved, .20or.30 over. Built to handle the boost. Looking at a gt2871r for a turbo but between the heads. Trying to figure out which casting is better and when you get more into heavy mods on the head, if the difference in them as a stock head even matters.
Solid low end pull with the most power middle to top end
So basically the biggest answer I need is if both head are fully modified what advantage does one have over the other if any?

For what you're going to do, like charlie said work with what you got. Don't worry about the "just go b series" crowd. D's can put down some respectable numbers. Might come up a lil short with that turbo. Think your goal is a hair out of its efficiency range. Not 100% sure. maybe someone else will chime in. Sounds like a fun setup though.

yup gt2871 would nearly max out at 350whp.
I would setup up the turbo size just a bit so you leave yourself room for more power down the road. Also I don't think it's the best idea to be maxing out your turbo or it will greatly decrease it's performance life.

sleeves will hold up to 350hp, 400hp+ is where i wouldn't wanna go with them.

hm the garret site sais the gt2871r is good from 280-460. They have the gt2876r thats supposed to be good for up to 480. Would it be better to just go for the gt30?

the Z6 has better ports in what way?

And hearing alot of people saying better quench, what exactly is that refering to.

Z6 head has "better" intake runners

Y8 has some weird things with the runners that can be ported out to inprove flow... Y8 head was built more for MPG over WHP. Just port your Y8 head, Supertech valve springs Delta 272 cam and you will be ready to rock

well ya thats what im trying to figure out is if the heads were fully built if the differances between them would even matter anymore.

but from what i have been finding building the y8 to put down 350-370 should be fairly easy and reliable with the right parts
