CopperSeal for turbo flanges?
Hi, I was wondering if some of you guys can confirm that Copperseal works for the manifold to turbo gasket and the exhaust flange gasket from the turbo. I seen this stuff is rated 500 Deg. F though...
never used it. My flanges are always machined and i dont have to use it.
For the manifold to turbo just buy the flange gasket it's cheap. For the turbo to DP, you dont need it. wastegate, you will need a gasket unless you have a vband

Well I just installed a copper gasket for the manifold to turbo and it is not sealing all the way because I can see a very slight gap in it - any suggestions? Does anyone know if the copperseal stuff works for this kinda issue or should I use something like exhaust sealer or something to make a seal?
The copper gasket maker works great. Been running it for years on numerous vehicles, including my personal vehicle, with no issues... Actually learned about it years ago from one of the more well known race teams... ;-)

Im running a lay of copperseal on my turbo to manifold flange, and downpipe with no gaskets and daily drive the car and even take it on 12 hour road trips just fine-

Okay thanks guys - I will go ahead and use it but I was wondering about how come they say its max. temp is 700F - I thought the manifold got more hot than that?

The gap is slightly less that 0.02 Inches - I think it should be okay with the Copperseal huh? I also have a copper gasket for it as well (still got the 0.02 inch gap with the gasket) so I am gonna apply the Copperseal to the gasket and then tighten it down...

Well I used the Copperseal and it worked great for the turbo to manifold flange. No Leaks and I drove the in boost a few times (not boosting too much because I am running a basemap chip and rather wait til I get it tuned - AF seems pretty good though).

Well I just discovered my turbo-to-cylinder head manifold gasket is bad or either the flange is warped a little - I was thinking about tryin this copperseal stuff but then I went and ordered a Percy's Carbon XX Gasket which they claim will seal even the most uneven surface and is made for turbo/nitrous setups etc..
So yeah I am gonna give that a try before I take the manifold to a shop to be resurfaced... I will let you guys know how the Percy's stuff worked out too...

If you read the lable for permatex copper gasket maker it will say that it is engineered for 4 cylinder turbocharged vehicles.
I use it and it works great. Only issue I have is that it wont come out in the wash.

LOL - I went ahead and took the manifold to the machine shop to get the flanges resurfaced
I will still use it as an added bonus though

Of course, if you were ballsy and had good gloves, you could take it to a big belt sander and level it that way....but machining it requires less heat and time, lol.

Exactly what I did.
With the two good surfaces you'll get away with using very little sealant.

But what I do not understand is, how come the coppersealant is rated at 700 F and the manifold gets waaay more hot than that yet it still holds (or does it?). Just confused by it a little...

When it took off my turbo the sealant was still "stretchy" and didn't look the least bit degraded. The **** works, and it's all you need to know.

Silicone's properties degrade above 6-700F, but the copper in the material (and the flanges' pressure) is helps keep it all bound together. You also have air cooling it off, which is usually just sufficient.
BTW who makes this Copperseal? WHen I google it, I get tons of bullshit, nothing that's really what you guys describe. Are you refering to the permatex brand?

Just to update, I used it and it worked GREAT. I used it on the dp flange, turbo flange and even the wastegate flange and it works just as you guys mentioned
