Default compression ratios and turbos...

ok im trying to do all my research before going out and buying something and wishing i had gotten somthing else. as you can probably tell i am new to the import scene...

i am looking into putting a turbo onto either a integra or a rsx

as far as the integra i have read to get a gsr over the type r due to the compression ratio if i am wanting to turbo the car later on...

so then i was looking at getting an rsx, and the base models compression ratio is 9.7:1 or something and the type s is 11:1

ok, heres why i need the help or someone to point me into a good direction to read some info...why is the lower compression ratio better. also what is the compression ratio with pistons as in the 9:1 or whatever...basically i need help understanding compression ratios too.
any help is appreciated...
however if your going to read this and write something lame, please just keep it to yourself. thank you

Higher compression ratios say 10 - 11 :1 with boost is more prone to detonation if the motor is not tuned properly. This is why its safer to run lower compression ratios with boost especially on pump gas. for eg. if you have a gsr motor with 9:1 you probably with good tuning can run 15 psi on pump gas but if you try this on a 11:1 motor you may have to run higher octane fuel or the motor would die
