Default compression make that much of a difference?

well, finally got my car out of the shop today...its a 97 integra gsr (b18c1)... JE 9:1 pistons, and eagle h beam rods were the only things i changed engine-wise. I had Type R 11:1 pistons before this and it pulled hard!! WHat I also have done to my engine are: cams, valvetrain, valve springs, titanium retainters, intake, header and exhaust. Now, I raced my buddies 92 H23 prelude today which he only has exhaust...and surprisingly he won by probably 2 carlengths. Is this because I have lower compression now? Does compression make that much of a difference?

btw, i am boosting in the next week or so...

That is probably one of the dumbest question you can ask. Hell yea, it makes a difference. Thats how you get cylinder pressure. The more air you can get in the smaller area the more power you can make.
