Default Codes 17 & 20

Car is a 92 Integra with a 94 gsr swap excluding the ls cable transmission. Computer is the stock obd-1 P72. As stated the car is, was rather throwing codes 17 & 20. Codes went away but the VTEC does not seem to becoming on in the car, so something is wrong, car revs all the way to 8100rpms but the vtec does not sound like it's popping. Or is it because of the long gears from the ls transmission. Also a lot of heat comes from the firewall close toe the transmission. Need some help.

Thanks. The VSS sensor is working but for some reason that caused the car to throw no check engine lights when before we had two. As I stated the vehicle also does not seem to engage VTEC or is that due to the longer transmission?

transmision will have no effect, hell if anything the long trans will make vtec feel stronger.

use a test light to see if its sending out the signal to the solonoid to determin if its electrical or mechanical

I would say not at all. Try clearing the codes (1st see if they are still stored on the ecu but jumping the harness) then un hook the batt. if all else fails you can take the speed sensor out located on the back of the tranny right near the pass. side axle . It has 3 wires on it, i have heard of ppl cleaning them with carb cleaner... if that does not work try using (if you can get your hands on one) another speed sensor. Single cam ones also are compatible Good luck
