I know Swain Tech does not coat the flex pipe sections. I'm not sure about others. I would think the pipe flexing could cause the coating to flake off. Just like if you paint a plastic bumper with paint not formulated to flex. I plan to use some heat wrap on the flex on my downpipe.

Think about it for a second-

It's a FLEX pipe. What job does it do? Now put a coating (ceramic) on there. Now, do you think that would really last? Nope.

If you're really that worried about heat (which you shouldn't be at this point), use some header wrap.

im not worried about heat and im not worried about it flaking off. i was just trying to keep away from welding the flex pipe on the downpipe once it gets back from the coating shop, i am planning on taking the downpipe in to get coated with the flexpipe welded on already of course, and will probably just cover the flexpipe so it dosnt get coated

The first time I did my exhaust stuff, I didn't coat the flex sections because of flexing issues as mentioned earlier, but the heat radiating from the flex section was pretty severe in my case.

The second time, I've had my flex sections coated just because it was done along the way with no extra costs... The braiding, the inner liner, etc... were all coated, and to my surprise, it held up and is still holding up after a year.
