Clutchmaster Stage 5
Yesterday at the track I messed up my stage 4. I think I broke the springs. Its about 10x harder to push in and even fully depressed it does no engage at all. I had to drive home 70 miles matching the revs. It does no slip at all though. Is anyone using a stage 5 on the street everyday? How much of a differance is it between the stage 4 and 5 on the street?

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (hybrid901)
I never used a stage 4, but I have stage 5 and I drive it around daily, commuting thru traffic and all..
it's definitely driveable...it enagages smoothly when you get useed to it, it gets a lil chatter at times at first gear, but again, after a few days, you can eliminate it once your;e used to it...but I have ES insert mounts, if you have no motor mount inserts, you'll be fine...lemme put it this way, you can take the car on a date with a hot chick who's not into cars and she'll be fine...
on the bright side, it'll grab ANYTHING You can throw at it...ANY POWER
I'd recommend it to anyone with 300-350 plus hp

I never tried satge 4 but stage 5 is PERFECT... You get use to it very fast and no problem at all in eavy trafic. I had the exedy clutch before but it ain't **** compared to stage 5. Like people like to say it holds ALL the power. I would never go lower then a stage 5. I love it. Go for it.

I think that's the first time I've seen people talk good about Clutchmasters. I've always kept my distance from them because soooooo many people talk about having problems with them.

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (Too_Smooth)
I'm very happy with how much abuse my CM stage 4 took. It has never slipped once even with 375+whp on the slicks. But I'm not to happy with how much Clutchmaster is always raising the prices on us.

DO NOT GET A STAGE 5. The full race clutches are such a pain in the *** since they don't have springs and are thus never "half on" or "half off", its either grabbing or it isn't. if you have a car that you want to keep driveable without having a lot of nerve, just go for the stage 4. People you ride with will constantly ask you why you have to hold the rev's at 3000 when you take off (to keep your car from shaking like hell). So just go Stage 4. It has more than enough power capacity and you don't have the hassle of having to drive a certain way just because of your clutch.

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (OKSolSi)
i've never used the CM stage 4 but i currently have the stage 3 and i have driven my friend's setup with the stage 5. it really wasn't that bad though i did have some chatter at times, but i expected that when engaging first gear.
from what i've been told the stage 4 can handle quite i bit of power, 450+ WHP.
so you could just stay with the CM stage 4 to make daily driving smoother.

Do you have a cable or hydro tranny? sorry I don't remember your set up. If it is cable the cable sometimes binds up and makes it seem like it's slipping cuz it won't engage, if not cable sorry. Also if hydro, have you checked the master cylinder, I've had 2 gone bad on my stock 94 DX.

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (Boostfed)
I have a hydro tranny. The master cylinder is still full. I'm 99% sure I broke the clutch. I called Clutchmaster and talked with our rep and he told me since I'm making around 400whp I would need to run the stage 5 since the stage 4 is rated up to 425 flywheel hp. Boostfed what clutch are you running on your 500whp setup?

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (ninesecrx)
Yeah you can make it slip if your RPMs are high enough and you feather it... but anyway I don't want to argue about it. My main point was just that its a pain in the *** to drive a car with a full race clutch, it definitely won't drive like it used to. So again don't do it unless you have to.

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (hybrid901)
I'm running an ACT XTSS setup in my car. This clutch/tranny combo has had the crap beat out of it for almost two years and has yet to slip.
How do the Clutchmasters 4 and 5 compare to my clutch?

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (BEe18SeAONe)
so do you have a stage 5? i don't think so, and if you do you really need to learn how to drive if your holding the revs at 3000 rpm for a normal launch. my car is daily driven and it's great, i would highly suggest it. it was tough for the 1st day but after that i got used to it. i never go over 2000 rpm for a normal launch and i have very little shuttering. i have perfect up-shifts and downshifting is normal. get it.
not pain in the ***, not messy....it's perfectly normal..
I wouldn't go any lower than 5 from now on...

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (Flamenco-T)
Also since the stage 5 has a super light 3 puk disc, it makes up shifts and down shifts a lot faster since the disc is so light. The one Flamenco-T has is a custom setup as you can also choose the pressure of the pressure plate. Stans was set for KILL mode on a race car so if his is ok on the street, id say most every one else's stage 5 will be as well. But once again, if your not making 300++hp, you dont have the need for it anyways. The fact is too, the disc is solid so its also less likely to break as well.

Re: Clutchmaster Stage 5 (Dublocivic)
Should I order anything special or just the regular stage 5 clutch? I'm making between 375-410whp now and plan to make 475-525whp with my sleeved setup.
