I'm chipping my roomates p28 ECU. I did the 2 capacitors and the 7H.... chip and the AT29256. The j1 jumper should be a straigt up wire, right? Then where does the resistor go that is supposed to be on R54? If it is supposed to go on R54, where is R54? I can't find it... TIA.

R54 is right below J1, unless you're dealing with the -1980 motherboard used on P75 and P72.

Is it marked? my roomates isn't... The only thing below j1 is like right next to the chip and unmarked. So if its a -1980 motherboard, how do i chip it?

That link doesn't have any more details about the R54 resisitor.

This picture was taken off PGMFI.ORG.. I put a red box around the J1 and R54. If you look really close you can see the R54 printed on the board

Thanks eddyboy,
His ECU looks the exact same, but there is just silicon where the R54 resistor should be, no solder points. So that block of 4 solder points is just two, for the J1 jumper...

The top two LEFT AND RIGHT are for J1
and the bottom two LEFT AND RIGHT are for R54

ACK... Sorry man in that case I don't know what u can do i've only done 2 ECUS so far in my chipping career. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in on this.

How about we not worry about an R54, as you don't have one, and follow the rest of the chipping instructions as best as you can.

shouldent i have a r54 tho, why dont i, and we followed threw with the rest of the instructions and burned a chip and the chip didnt work , but the car still started and ran but none of the changes in uberdata occured, im really confused

Well, looking at the picture you posted above, I can tell you right off why you're still running on the stock 273 code dump located in the main processor.

Check your work, stunna, what did you do wrong?

i wont make you guess....you put a resistor in J1 instead of a jumper.

Bah, you're no fun Keebler... when you keep someone hanging 12+ hours over an answer on something like this they sometimes get desperate and check over their work thoroughly.

I've made a lot of dumb mistakes on my road to knowing how to do this stuff... at the time there weren't *nearly* so many other people to turn to and I had to figure out what I did wrong myself. I'm not trying to criticise anybody, but I personally learned to rely on myself and to check over my own work and to trust my abilities. The more you figure it out yourself, the more you have confidence in your abilities, the less you stress about the work you're doing, and the easier it is for you to think clearly and DO the "hard" stuff.

I have a for anybody who tries, and I wasn't trying to withhold an answer here. I just felt this was an easy to solve problem if the guy had gotten a good night's sleep, some morning coffee, and done a few minutes of netsearching/thinking.

First off, i was drunk when i posted, my roomate wouldn't let me go to the bars until i posted the question about his ECU, so yeah, its a P72, not a P28.

I did realize that i put a resitor in the position of the jumper, but i figured it would just do a voltage check or whatever for the J1 jumper to enable external ROMs. I'm about to change that resistor to a wire, hopefully that will fix the problem. I was also confused why there wasn't an R54 resistor at all, i wanted to make sure i didn't fry and ECU that wasn't mine.
