Chipping an OBD2 ( OBDII ) ecu?
I've asked this question in some of the other forums with no success. I've tried to search and research as much as possible. I've even tried to go to http://www.pgmfi.org to try and learn some more, only to find out that I need to register and when I do, the registration e-mail doesn't get sent.
Anyways, I'm looking into chipping an OBD2 ecu. I've found one place, http://www.ericksracing.com/id98.html

hardware.
I know I'm talking to a very small crowd but for those of you who have chipped the OBD2:
1) I'm hearing issues of the ecu being re-written either by swapping the battery or by honda dealers....any truth to this?
2) That the chips aren't re-writeable
3) Are there any other issues that I might have to deal with?

So, this is the kinda thread I have been looking for! whats the differences between the 2 ecu's, and what do you have to do to change over? is it easy?

No, this isn't that type of thread. Read the library from the pgmfi.org link in my first post.

It is possible to chip an OBD2 ECU. It involves de-soldering the 104 pin processor/memory and installing another one that has been re-programmed. The story about it getting re-written by changing the battery is false, as it would be the exact same as the OEM ECU, except with different data in the adjusted parameters on the programming.
Since it is necessary for the chip to be changed for the program to be changed, I don't see the dealer being able to re-write the program without changing the chip. It is however an elaborate process, and there are very few places that are set up to do it.
The chips can also be difficult to come by. These are not your run of the mill EPROMs, but actual prcessors with on-board memory.
All of this refers specifically to 96-00 Civics and 96-01 Integras. The newer stuff can be re-written by the dealer or anyone else with the correct equipment.

The only one I know of is the aformentioned "Techtom". I have not seen or heard of any "shareware" (Uberdata, Crome, etc...) for OBD2.

That sucks royal *****. You'd think that with millions on the table for OBD2 stuff that someone somewhere could simply crack the codes for it or AEM can make their EMS with an OBDII port.

dude if ur thinkning about aem u can use an obd1 AEM unit and just use a regular obd 1-obd2 conversion harness on ur obd2 engine harness connector into the aem and bam,
worky worky aem on an obd2 harness!

Because it's illegal and won't be able to smog like that. If I can run the same ECU 24/7 then I'd like to do so.
