Catch can question...again sorta
I have a Honda JDM B18C Type-R with a Garrett GT2860RS turbo. It is very mildly tuned due to the fact it's in a 1700 lb Mini.
Currently it has a small filter venting a fake Mugen valve cover. The PCV system is, of course, gone.
I saw where King Motorsports with put on 2 AN fittings so I can fit some braided line and put a catch can on it.

They charge $125 for this service. It looks like it's all welded.
I have 2 questions:
1) With the mild state of turbocharging I'm using, do I need more that the crappy filter?
2) If I do need one, is there any reason these AN fittings has to be welded on? Isn't there just a away to drill and tap the cover for this to work? $125.00 is a fair chunk of change.

2. No need to weld. Drill and tap works just fine if done right.

Yeah, the engine has been turned this way and that so most of the "unnecessary" stuff has been removed. Any info on where to point me at the fittings I can just drill and tap for? I just think mailing away my valve cover and paying to have it welded, then having to repaint it, when I could drill and tap it.

You need to run more than 2 AN10 breather hoses likely, depending on boost.
Do you have problems like spark plug cables popping off, dipstick jumping out, and oil leaks at seals? Means you have excessive blowby from the boost you're running.
Alternative locations to vent the crank case is the two hex block off plugs for the PCV pathway to the head, you can search for the solutions there. And why are you posting in an All motor thread?

I run triple AN10 PCV breathers to my breather can, but that's because I had nothing better to do. Since I'm all motor, I probably could have gotten away with a single AN12.

For this engine build, even the stock PCV system is more than adequate for him. doing all this bung welding and huge catch can fitment is a waste of time and resources as he's not drag racing.

If he hasn't, then I'd probably come to the same conclusion as you have, that the PCV system is adequate.
One of the all-motor engines I remember helping to built had a 85*92mm stroker. Can easily pop out the plug cables and dipstick at 9K rpm on a regular basis with a single AN12 PCV breather. lol. Tuning it was a bitch, as on the dyno, it keeps popping one of the plug cables and reverting to 3 cylinders. Finally zip tied the cables and finish up the run to 9K. Added another breather port and works fine now.

A stock engine at over 10.6:1 on a GT2860RS on a mini chassis with 13" wheels for 300whp, is hardly necessary for anything outside of what the stock PCV can easily handle.
This needs to go back to FI, and not stay here. Mods, please, if you would be so kind as to migrate this thread to the FI section.

good thread! i have a lowcompression b16 turbo, at 8psi on a low street tune, makes 280 at the wheels. I have 2 #10 lines coming off my vc to a vented catch can, my catch can fills up with oil pretty quickly, and the filter is starting to smoke and im getting gass's inside the car now coming through the firewall. i looped the pvc port from the black box up to the vc briether port with some hose line instead of blocking off both ends. Any one have any ideas on why this is happening ?

NOt needed, but you could modify the OEM box to accept lines for the catch can. I saw someone on here do it and it seemed like a good idea. Then you wouldnt need to worry about drilling/tapping valve cover. However you would have to modify the black box.. I would agree with saving the money towards tuning. Unless youre having excessive blowby you really shouldnt need it on youre build. I wouldnt have disabled the oem PCV system tho

the oem pcv system is erelevant with a turbo application, block it off at the black box on the block, block the port on the vc that would normally go to the IM, and run two lines off the vc to a vented catch can, call it a day... or in stead of blocking both ends, you can run a hose line from the black box up to the VC where the breither port is on the backside of the VC. if you do this you must have a vented catch can set up with at least 2 #10 lines running to the can, because now, all of your internal engine presure will be vented out of those lines, i have a few pics i will upload for you when i get home of my set up.

I don't agree. the OEM PCV system is very relevant for turbo applications in your region of power of under 400whp, where the original system can do just fine in order to vent enough crankcase. There's no need to modify the valvecover for this. I'm curious if VTEC+mini eliminated the black box system entirely, and just didn't substitute that pcv system with anything else.

Making 460whp on a b18.
All I have is a stock valve cover with a line ran to a catch can. The black box all I did was gut the pcv valve, cut the elbow off so its strait, and bored the hole larger. I ran that to another catch can. Cheap cans I paid $60 for. Works great. I will probably modify the black box with two larger lines but for now its working fine.

I'm going to defer to the experts on this. Greg and Shodan already commented all I'm doing is making their heads hurt. I'm pretty sure of Go-Autoworks was concerned about it, they would fix it...
