can crankshaft be fixed?
a ceased gsr motor came in my eg hatch. i had a swap already waiting so i swapeed it out. today i finially got to open the block to find out what was wrong with it. the #1 rod bearing spun and badly scarred the crankshaft. the bearing broke and pieces are pressed onto the crank along with scaring. i am going to try to post the pics of bearing and crank. sometimes you can either polish if its not deep scaring..or you can weld in where its scared up and have it smoothed out....but you can get factory reconditioned gsr cracks at autozone for like 150-200...my friend just checked ino them a couple weeks ago

Re: can crankshaft be fixed? (earl)
once i get a new crank i would have to gauge all the bearings for the rod & main. i have an idea but not 100% positive on it. i hard that i should get a set of green bearings for the rods & for the main then plasti- gauge each one and then buy the color bearings to bring it with in specs. is that method right? or is there an easier way?

Yes you can get a new bearing and then plastigauge each journal then do the math to see whay shells you will need. It is best to get 1 new main and 1 new rod bearing and use that to measure with then see what you need from there. Bearings are not cheap. There is no easy way out of this.
I would like to see that AZ "factory reconditioned" gsr crank LOL.. with as many returns as I have seen on electrical parts from them and then catalogs are wrong and oh man dont get me started..
Like dude said a a good used GSR crank is not a bad idea and they are out there.

its not like they have willie that runs the battery tester out back doing cranks...they prolly do a core charge then send the crank out to a machine shop and have it fixed..its at least worth looking into. you could pretty much tell when you look at it whether or not its a botched fix.....for some of the prices people are asking over the net for gsr cranks (300+) ide sure as hell go check one out. you can always take it back if its no good
