Bypass ICM without MSD
That's why we stuck with the mallory system. I even stayed with the same plugs, nothing was "taken over" only amplified for better spark.
What do you think we did before M&W in the 90s and early 2001-2005? Just sat there to wait for the Aussies to come along and save us? Many ignition systems are even more complicated than Honda setups, and sometimes, the simple just works. ;-)

Well i can tell you what i did back in the mid 90's, we used MSD lol and that was the thing to have back then. Its been over 10 years and now coming back into this again i feel i missed a boat load.
Not really. Just that M&W came into the Honda world. Many high HP Subaru setups use either AEM CDI ignition or HKS Twin Power for the extra spark. So don't think you're alone here, just many ways to skin a cat is all.
the mallory box should take alot of load off the icm. my icm didn't get hot like it use to either. i just wanted to simplify my ign system withouth spending an arm and a leg.
Just ordered my self a summit digital box. already have a msd blaster ss coil. hey shodan if i open up the gaps whats the benefit? im currently running like .022 because the msd coil on stock ignition was weak and had blow out. will i get a better burn with a larger gap?
I pretty much kept the gap at about .028.. .022 is pretty close, which is the best way to wear down your plugs pre-maturely.
You'll get a better burn with the slightly larger gap, longer spark life, and with the coil better operation. Remember, the ICM was stressed with that blaster coil. Both box and coil are best to use.

Agree but i think the higher you go in hp the tighter the gap usually gets and plugs get replaced often. I went from .028 to .019 and it did much better but probably due to msd on the dyno
yeah that what i figured. i knew the ignitor was being stressed with just the msd coil thats why i had to gap them way down but i didnt have a vtec coil so thats what i had laying around when i went vtec. As far as sprak plug wear i havent had any issues. I usually get about 20k miles on a set of bkr7e's which i dont think is bad at al for a standard copper plug
Yep.. You seem to be pretty much on target. I've been able to squeeze about 30K, but that's because I've been driving the car a bit more "maturely" as of late
yeah i dont really hamer on my car. i drive it like i drive my elantra slow and steady, just once and a while when the highway is clear of cars ill open it up quick and bring it back down to 65
NM im a retard. you run the "points" white wir to the negative of the coil wires and cap the positive coil wire in the dizzy. fired right up after my dizzy beloowed smoke. imy positive wire grounded out and looked like the smoke came from the ignitior. it was pretty bad but the car still runs now and drive just fine and boost just fine too. Send It!

how about getting rid of the distributor all together? well youll still need it on there right now because of the crank sensors in it still need to be operational..
