Buying turbo
Well the search is down again. I am looking to buy a t3/to4e 50 trim turbo. I have heard a lot of bad things from buying turbos off ebay and some online sources.
Where did you guys buy your turbo at? Who has pretty good deals on turbos? I have decided to go with the to4e 50 trim because im looking to make 300-350. BTW i have a build a6 block mated to a z6 head. Im running a t3 45 trim right now but need more power. Anyone recommend a different turbo that will make the power im looking for?
I want a turbo that will make 300-350whp but will also make a little more if i decide to turn the boost up later on. So i dont want a turbo that will be maxing out at 350whp. Thanks guys

Yeah listen to him, ebay = crackerjack, never know what ull end up getting. Cheapturbo.com is a good place to look for a turbo
you get what you pay for when it comes w/ turbos. I'm getting a turbo w/ a $1,000 price tag... a lot i know but I'll never regret getting whats best for my goals

Re: (vtec'n)
So should i go with a t3/to4e or is there a cheaper turbo you guys would recommend that will fit my needs? So far the cheapest place for the turbo was cheapturbo.com for 580. What are some other sites for turbos?
Is there anyone that has anything good to say about turbocalculator.com because they have a to4e for 450. I have heard of people saying they didnt receive the turbo for like 2 months and then some said the turbo **** the bed and they wouldnt replace it. Anyone had any good experience with them?

Re: (92GuttedHatch)
i believe turbocalculator's turbos are rebuilt, so that maybe the reason why. Fo rme i went brand new turbo from cheapturbo.com. Pay the money, no problems. Do you really want to skimp out on the heart of your setup?

True. Will a to4e suit my power needs or do you recommend a different turbo? I ask because i havent really seen many people making 400whp on one.

Re: (Kyoushu)
Which should i go with? I plan on installing valve springs and retainers and revving to around 8k so i dont want a turbo that will fall off up top, i want it to make power to redline. Im thinking the 50 trim with a 48 a/r will spool quick but wont make power to 8k. Which of the t04e turbos will be best for a built d series revving to 8k? I dont want it to be super laggy but i also dont want it to stop making power at 6k. What do you think?
BTW does anyone have any dyno sheets showing what the power curve of a to4e is like on a d16?

Re: (92GuttedHatch)
way too many variables here...manifold/ar/compressor/intercooler. Just a few. Figure it out with a compressor map from turbocalculator.com. Even that isn't enough since turbine A/R can make huge differences

Alright so should i go with a 50 trim or 57 trim? also should i get a 48 a/r or 63 a/r? This is going on a built a6/z6 motor. I am looking to make 350whp or so. This will pull all the way to redline right? Thanks guys

I bought my turbo from TheShodan. he speced the turbo for my power goal and was very fast in shipping it. Great seller and very knowledgable about forced induction

Never heard of an a6 before. You will want to go witha 57 trim and .63a/r This will meet your power goal with a little room for expansion.

Someone messaged me and was telling me they had a t3/to4e 50 trim with a .60 a/r and a .63 a/r. Now a .60 a/r and .63 a/r isnt listed on any site that sells garrett turbos. So what are the only choices of compressor sizes and turbine sizes for the 50 trim and 57 trim? Im a little confused because on cheap turbos website it only says the turbine specs not the compressor. It says you can get the 50 trim in either a 48 a/r or 63 a/r but not a 60 so whats the deal and what are the compressor specs of both the 50 trim 48 a/r and 63 a/r as well as the 57 trim?
BTW would a t3/to4e 50 trim with a 48 a/r on the turbine side be insufficient for 350whp because thats what i have been told to get by a few different people.

The 60 a/r is on the compressor side and I haven't seen anyone change that(prove me wrong I'd love to see one ) you can change the turbine size from .48 to .63 to .83 Otherwise the trim of the wheel and wheel stage (III or V). With the 50 trim turbo you will be cutting it close to your 350WHP level and the turbo will start to become inefficient. It just means you will run a little more boost at a hotter temp to reach the same as a lower boost lower temp on a 57 trim. All this in exchange for maybe.....maybe.....300-600 rpm faster spool.

Re: (adseguy)
Does anyone have any dyno sheets of a d16 with a to4e 50 trim on it?
What compressor housing does the to4e 50 trim normally come with? So if you dont recommend a 50 trim turbo what of the 57 trims do you recommend?

Its pretty simple
D16 you want a .48/.60 50/54 trim T3/t04e
B16/B18b1 you want a .63/.60 57 trim T3/t04e
B18c1/b18c5 you want a .63/.60 60 trim t3/t04e
These are suggestions for garrett t3/t04e families.

Oh no!! Please don't say that . Some people don't like slow spool, and some people need more top end power. This scale looks like it's on the higher end of that spectrum.
