Default Buying a Shortblock

I am thinking about buying a complete shortblock. I am have had mixed thoughts about doing so, I know reviews of shops is going to be a hit or miss. I have a k20 with a pistons and rods making 760 on a 6266.. I have let the motor sit and it was on e85. so the motor is probably gone.. So now I am in the process of getting another motor in it. I want to build a k24 NOW. I am thinking about sleeving a k24 block and sending it off to getting it built. The issue is I see is alot of people say that have been screwed over getting things built.I want the motor to stay in the south, anybody know a shop that actually does it right, meaning no bad news. I am open to what anybody has to say.

Darton has a machine shop in Virginia. Inline Pro is also in Virginia, and does great work.

I was thinking about both of those places. Does Darton even assemble their own motors? Dont they send them out get them actual done.

Why do you think your old motor is bad just because it sat for a while?

Inline Pro did my head work, I assembled my own motor. They definitely do great work, and their guys are cool guys to work with. Considering Darton installs their own sleeves, I highly doubt they farm out their assembly work.

Its been sitting for a year with a full tank of e85.. I am about to see how bad the motor is in a couple of weeks, but I am planning for the worst.

When you assembled the block, did you trust the machine shop to do the clearances?? I have seen people trust the machine shop to get all the clearances right and just assemble the motor, but I am very scared of that procedure meaning trusting the machine shop.

Nothing is going to be wrong with the motor

It should fire right up

I double checked their work, but yeah.

This. Replace your fuel filter, maybe pull your injectors to make sure they aren't leaking, but you should be fine. Gas won't get into the motor unless either you tell it to, or the injectors are leaking.

You think so even on e85 sitting for almost a year?

Drain the tank and refill it, and replace the fuel filter, and you should be fine. Like hatchy and I said, as long as your injectors aren't leaking, what's sitting in the tank shouldn't hurt the motor.

Oh ok cool.. I guess I will start from there. I guess all the talk about rust and stuff like that isnt true? I was thinking about taking the still getting a shortblock built a k24 though. Meaning I see KMOD has a shortblock for about 4100.. I was thinking about giving them a chance, meaning thinking about it. I was going to go all out with the Manley tuff stuff rods and weisco pistons..

Wow gives me hope. I am so excitied now. I am going to get my injectors cleaned.

On a side note, What are you guy doing with about the engine harness? I bought a brand new harness from Acura and my manifold is melting it up.. I have first gen full race side-winder manifold and it sits the turbo very close to the valve cover which is melting my manifold. What are you guys doing about this problem?
