Is a built motor suppose to be...
Well last night i finished installing the motor back into may car. After double-checking everything (i’m a perfectionist) i fired her up. WTF what’s all this tapping sound? It sounds like the pistons are clapping and it sounds like the valves need adjusting. I quickly shut it down (got scared) and stood there for 15min before i called my friend, he told me it’s normal it’s because of the forged internals. So is this true is it because of the forged internals? I assembled the motor my self everything was tightened to spec and i’m positive everything was installed perfectly. This is the first motor i built so i don’t know if it’s supposed to be loud. I will fire it up tonight when i get home but i will let it warm up this time. Then i’m going to do an oil change and if it’s still doing it i’m going to be pissed.
I didn’t install the turbo yet, i’m weighting to break in the motor in first then do the turbo installation plus i haven’t figured out what my fuel setup is going to be yet.

do a search.
Forged pistons have alittle piston slap when cold because of the silicone content. Start the car, let it warm up, shut it off, check the valves when the motors warm. If they are good, start it up, let it warm up to temp, and start driving it...

you need to break it in the first start up check for oil pressure which is very key.. make sure you break it in slowly at various rpms The break in procedure will help you seal the rings and get good engine life.

yea i wouldnt worry. Piston slap can be weird at times. I rememebr the first time i heard my friend bobs CRX with a build motor. Sounded like his timing belt slipped lol
Noise should get quieter when the car is warmed up. Forged pistons will expand.
Mine was loud when I first started mine. You can still kinda hear it once its warmed up.

Anybody - I was told I'd be broken in at 500miles. Should I wait until I get 1K? Various revs, let off on pedal, etc, to break it in.

did you do the initial break in of warming the car up, then let it sit at 2000-2500 for about 15-20 minutes?
